Can’t write to DVD disc drive, it just makes a ping sound.

Hi Norton community.

Can’t write to DVD disc drive, when paste is clicked it just makes a ping sound.  Running windows vista home premium.

Run a full Norton scan, run a full windows defender scan, run c cleaner.

The drivers for the DVD disc drive have been uninstalled in normal mode, and uninstalled in safe mode restarting the computer seems to reinstall the drivers.

The drivers for the DVD disc are up to date.

No ability to roll back drivers for DVD disc drive, no previous revision available.

Restarting the computer and holding F8 down and selecting Repair your computer.

Restarting the computer and holding F8 down and selecting debugging mode, was still running after twelve hours.

Searched the web for a fix and even got a pop up windows box on a windows web page that had fix CD/DVD disc drive problems, run it.

Tried all of the above but still won’t write to DVD disc when paste is clicked it just makes a ping sound.

System restore was used for a white screen problem  (see white screen on the Norton community forum) that went back to around twenty-six days before the last write to dvd disc was performed.  I don’t know if this problem has anything to do with the white screen problem.

No problem pasting files or folders with in the folders on the computers hard drive.

It will delete a file on the DVD disc and will then write to DVD disc if undo delete is selected.

It will write files from DVD disc to hard drive.

It will write files to devices connected via a USB port.

Change hard drive in the computer and it will write to DVD disc drive.

It will play DVD film discs.
