Supposed you wanted to totally stop Norton without uninstalling it.
Can you go to Task Manager and just stop certain processes? Will that do it?
Is it ccsvchst or are there others?
I have Norton 19 and Windows 7.

It was a hypothetical. I thought I might need to know one day, if Norton acts up too much.
With other AV programs, can you stop them in Task Manager?
Hi! Robertjc,
The answer to that is; no you cannot use task manager to stop other AV programs' processes. All full-fledged AV programs don't allow this for the reason I gave earlier for the Norton products. Malware authors' search for these types of vulnerabilities to exploit them.

I can stop it in the task manager in XP. I think it’s because I turned off “Norton Product Protection”. But it will restart by it’self after a few minutes. Dave
Hi Robert
Turning parts of Norton off can leave you system vulnerable and that can cause major problems. You should disconnect from the internet by removing the cable if you have one or disabling the wifi or turning the router off. It is possible for your system to be attacked if you are just connected to the internet with out actually surfing. So if you do the following do the above first. You can turn off the Norton applications one at a time by clicking on the Norton icon then on advanced in the user interface on the RHS, in the next window there are buttons on the right hand side that allow the function to be disabled when it is switched off a pop up has a drop down menu to select the time you would like to disable for. That’s all I can think of but check back as some of the users on this forum are more techie than me.
You asked about ccsvchst, I think you mean ccsvchost, I know that svchost is used by many functions in the windows operating system not just Norton so doing anything with it will affect the operating of other processes that means problems.

Hey Dave
If I remember correctly the Norton processes have to be killed 2 or 3 times before they will stay dead. After the third time they should stay stopped until you reboot.
