I am trying to install 360 v2.x after just purchasing it. Download was slow, with several resume downloading pauses, but seems to have worked. (MD5 hash: a646ec8891428135c60afbe091708709 *N360S200AP.exe)
After downloading, a click on the install link and nothing happened. Log in for support. IE stops at checking support software. After reading answers to 360 problems while looking for a solution, I wanted to roll back to NIS2009 instead of the 360 package. No chat means to refund on the 360.
Trying to get to suport via my now expiring NIS2008, I get an "Internet Explorer Script Error." I assume that the other issues above (no install/cannot connect to chat to refund) must be related to this issue. I have walked through all the IE script error debugging steps and cannot find a problem. As most of the advice on debugging these errors http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308260 . This results in a very helpful error message when starting NIS2008 support: "An error has occurred in the script on this page" with all lines empty, and "do you want to continue running scripts on this page" that is actually a hung message (click yes or no, no action until kill the process). :-P
So although this is a Windows error, becuase Norton has tied it's wagon to it, I cannot get help. Any suggestions (except go through the MS processes as listed on thier support page as I have done so already) on how to get chat back as I had it previously but now do not?
TIA & Best,
Jay
Thanks for the suggestion but the issue is that unless your scripting is working correctly there is no way to either get a chat going for support or to get a refund.
Best,
jay
Well…maybe putting the site in your “Trusted Zone” would help.
Thanks again, but the suggestion did not work. After clicking the chat button:
1. Checking Web Browser compatability [Greencheck for ok]
2. Checking for Support Software.[Hang - the little circle goes round and round... but nothing ends up happening after even 30 minutes]
So I still believe it is a script error as indicated when I had NIS installed. note that I had a similar episode when a virus mucked up the scripting. I had found one virus that somehow NIS or my sandbox let throug. NIS did not find it on full swee, until I had done some rebuilding of M$IE. :-( Still swimming upstream. :-P Anyother ideas? TIA
Best, Jay
Go to Add/Remove Programs
Uninstall/Remove Norton Technical Support Controls
Attempt to chat with a rep. again. Or, go to
norton.com/support
for free phone help.
Many thanks for the suggestion. I uninstalled NIS 2088 with the Norton Uninstall Tool and deleted all references to Norton/symantec, it did not work still. After a clean download (from US server, without the AP tag at end) I was able to install. Ever after a clean by N360 v2, the chat connect problem continued. After firing up the support option from 360, it did fix itself (albeit after a loooong wait).
However, I did not realize the problem had actually gone away until I was reading your suggestion and tried to chat.
Many thanks
Jay
