Cannot access trust controls

When I attempt to configure the Trust Controls, I get a message "We need to initialize a network component to complete your request."  I start the initializing and after a bit, I get the message "The initializing has encounter an error and cannot continue."  It also indicates an error of 5022,2.

I downloaded and ran the Norton Removal Tool (actually ran it twice back to back to be sure) and then reinstalled NIS2012.  I got exactly the same problem.  I've also tried regressing to NIS2011 and got exactly the same problem with NIS2011.

In looking at the forums, it seems a bit similar to:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/can-t-configure-network-security-map/m-p/277771/highlight/true#M123799

but I'm not sure how they solved the problem.

I am running Windows XP

Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Hi owner21,

In this thread started by dallas_maverickVineeth provided a solution to error 5022,2  here.

I hope this helps.

Dave.

That might provide some insights but doesn't quite get us there.

Upon deleting the "Config" key, I could go back to NIS and the component initializes and goes to the trust control screen.  I thought wonderful.  However, I lost all connection to my LAN, the internet and everything else.  (As a result, the trust controls don't find anything.)  I went back and restored my system to the restore point I had created.  While I got internet back by using the restore point (and can come back to this forum), the same problem as my original problem returned

I tried reverting to NIS2011 again but am not fixing the trust controls.  Comments would be much welcomed.

Also, until/unless the trust controls get fixed, do I presume that NIS is still otherwise securing my computer -- except obviously I can't access or adjust the trust controls?  I can't see the trust settings, but hopefully they are at some default setting which is secure.

Sorry to hear you have not solved your problem. It is regularly recommended here to remove by Control Panel > uninstall a program before using the removal tool. Please try this.

1. Backup Identity Safe Safe data.

2. Download latest installer from http://www.norton.com/nis11 or http://www.norton.com/nis12

3. Download Norton Removal Tool from http://www.norton.com/nrt

4. Disconnect from internet.

5. Remove NIS > Control Panel> Uninstall a program.

6. Reboot.

7. Run the Norton Removal Tool.  Reboot and repeat.

8. Install fresh copy of NIS.

9. Reconnect to internet.

10. Activate with current Activation Key.

11. Run Live Update,  rebooting as required,  until no more updates are available.

12. Restore your Identity Safe data.

Thanks to PapauZ for the steps.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks,  Dave.
