I have noticed that when I return to the work office from my home office, I do not get notified of a new connection. Hence from the screenshot I have attached one can see the Location of the Firewall is still set to Home while the Connection Blacking Settings are set to Office. How can I get NIS for Mac 4 to automatically detect new networks?
Sorry for the problems. It sounds like for whatever reason Norton Firewall thinks the networks are the same which is very strange.
How do you connect to your Mac at home and how is it connected via the office? Are you using wireless at both locations or is it connected via an Ethernet cable? Do you use a VPN connection?
You can also try these steps:
1. Delete the "Home" location that exists in your settings.
2. Disable Location Awareness.
3. Restart your Mac.
4. Re-enable Location Awareness in the Norton Firewall application. This should cause it to bring up an alert.
From then on it should be able to recognize the differences. Make sure when you re-enable Location Awareness that you are connected to the Internet normally, not using VPN.
Also, FWIW, I can't really see the screenshot. Not sure how these forum attachments work, but is it possible to enlarge the picture?
Thanks Ryan,
Your suggestions did the trick! For your reference I wanted to answer as many of the questions you posed in case this can help another Mac user, should this same issue ever arise again. I really appreciate your effort and time!
"How do you connect to your Mac at home and how is it connected via the office? Are you using wireless at both locations or is it connected via an Ethernet cable?"
Yes, I use WiFi at both locations (home and work).
"Do you use a VPN connection?"
Yes but at least not when I was experiencing this phenomena. It would appear as soon as I started my MacBook Pro.
P.S. Not sure what happened on the pic I posted on the forum, I believe there was an option to adjust the size that I confused with making a thumbnail. I had assumed it would generate a thumbnail and link to a larger pic to save storage? Guess not? If I ever need to post another screenshot, I will leave it full sized :)
