I have had this problem for months but never needed a solution until I was trying to sign in to use/test norton crypto.
I am really hitting a brick wall. I am trying to sign into the Norton Lifelock 360 windows 10 app and it failed to connect after every troubleshooting step I saw online. I dont know how to trace the port it is trying to use but I assume that is the problem.
My problem is I get this same error no matter what I edit or try to do. "Cannot connect to the Norton server" "An unexpected browser error has occurred"
Testing already tried:
Uninstalling and reinstalling,
Norton removal/reinstall tool, seperatly from above
built in help tool to find errors (this used to be its own tool and is now built into norton),
I disabled my firewalls,
reset all my firewall settings.
Reinstalled drivers for network adapters (not all of them but most)
Yeah service is active and device shows as protected. Still the app wont let me in.
I'm just going to call it here and figure out another method to mining eth on this computer, norton crypto isnt worth formatting the computer over it. It was so easy i thought this would be quicker than setting up a miner but I cannot get past this infernal error code.
I can connect and login fine on the website. Confirming this was is chrome and not Microsoft edge.
I found the internet properties screen but the option for internet explorer is missing so i just reset the other setting. I am going to restart and connect again after sending this message.
one moment
:edit: I just finished restarting and im still hitting this same error...
Well, i am using edge which i assume the rules would be the same for edge vs explorer. I found only one option to reset settings and am not able to find the second option you mentioned. I did complete that reset, twice, and restarted my computer. I am still unable to sign in but that makes me curious if reinstalling edge from the ground up might help?
Do you have any other recommendations? This was crazy to learn and I wouldn't have ever guessed edge/explorer could play a role.
And you're able to Sign In at my.norton.com?
Please, try as test, turn off all browser content blocker/s like ads blocker, scripts blockers, tracking prevention, etc.,.. either thru browser extensions or built-in browser features.
Please, try as test, with all browser content blocker/s off + clearing browser cookies n' cache. VPN Off + machine Restart.
Note: secure sites need to fully load all page content for proper function.
Reset settings: This will reset your startup page, new tab page, search engine, and pinned tabs. It will also disable all extensions and clear temporary data like cookies. Your favorites, history and saved passwords will not be cleared.
Yeah, I've run Edge "Reset settings" just to see what happens. I've no notion whether Edge is related to Norton server connection. Sorry
That is interesting! I had no idea it worked like that.

I also reset all my firewall settings on the off chance I was blocking edge but that didn't seem to help either.
Any input is appreciated. If you can't help I might just try crypto without Norton, this just sounded really cool but its almost too much work, lmao.
PS my screenshot wont upload but I was sending what the screen looks like on edge, it says >

Okay...I was curious. Thanks for checking.
Community sees "norton server cannot connect" reports. And I was wondering......
Some years back, I read (and I’m guessing maybe it still applies) that many third party programs have a dependency upon some of the dynamic link libraries (DLL’s) that are delivered with IE. Components of Internet Explorer are used by other programs on the machine regardless of whether you use IE.
The Internet Options section of Control Panel allows you to manage Internet and Internet Explorer settings for your computer.
Close all open windows and programs.
Open Internet Explorer, select Tools > Internet options.
Select the Advanced tab.
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, select Reset.
In the box, Are you sure you want to reset all Internet Explorer settings?, select Reset.
When Internet Explorer finishes applying default settings, select Close, and then select OK. Restart your PC to apply changes.
Two important buttons: the "Restore advanced settings" and "Reset" buttons. The "Restore advanced settings" button will reset the settings above it to the default value when IE was first initiated. The other "Reset" button will reset all IE settings including: toolbars, add-ons, browser settings, privacy, settings, security settings, tabbed browsing settings, advanced options, and pop-up settings.
BJM, The resources on their website mentioned only chrome, lemme try, but just as a note it shouldn't open any browsers to sign in. It signs in fine on my personal computer within the app without opening any third party browsers.
I just tried and no change, the dialog that shows the error is still occuring.
I realized afterward there might be some more relevant information.
I am using chrome as default browser (i have multiple user’s signed into google)
I restarted the computer 2 times after each install thinking it might update and need more restarts to help.
I have multiple network adapters ie: 2 wifi cards and a ethernet card.
