Cannot create recovery points for job

Was gone for 3 months and when I returned this happened to my C: backup job (all other backup jobs are running ok):

Norton Ghost 15.0.1.36526, Windows 7 Home Premium, 64bit

C: backup job backs up the C: drive and a System Reserve drive (1 weekly image with daily incrementals, 3 sets) -- been  doing this for 2 years with no problems.

Last image backup = 7/14, last incremental backup = 7/18.

Next incremental backup on 9/27 recorded successfully by Ghost.  However, the .iv2i is created for the C: drive but no .sv2i file for the System Reserve drive.  No Ghost or System errors or events recorded other than Ghost success.  The 9/27 C: .iv2i file does not appear in the Manage Backup Dest. even though the file exists on the disk and is not corrupted.  (if I do a one time virtual conversion and select that .sv2i file it is there)

9/28 Next attempted incremental backup:

Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: C:.

Error EC8F040B: Cannot create incremental recovery point of C:\ drive.
Error E0BB0083: Unable to create incremental recovery point.
Error EBAB0013: A test that safeguards the integrity of the program failed unexpectedly. CHECK failed, BitmapInternal::RunListBase<unsigned __int64>::RunListBase: d:\ComponentReleases\Base_Main\ws\Base/Dev/Bitmap/RunListBase.inl(158): mRunListCount < maxRuns. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071)

Any attempted manual backup:

-Error E1ADD76B: Cannot read backups.
--Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

(UMI:V-0-429-55147)

Does anyone have any idea how to get this cleaned up.

Thanks for your help,

David

Do you have more than one harddrive connected to the motherboard? Look at this long thread...

One of the Incremental Backup Errors mentions the Bitmap. I've often seen the following (C:) drive Check Disk error log entry on other's PCs I've worked on: "CHKDSK discovered free space marked as allocated in the master file table (MFT) bitmap. Correcting errors in the Volume Bitmap."

You might run Check Disk to see if that resolves the issue. Ghost may need a clean Bitmap to work properly. The following Microsoft link explains the Bitmap.

"The master file table (MFT) stores the information required to retrieve files from an NTFS partition." - Quote from above link.

Thanks OUgrad.  I'll check the disk(s) out and see if there are any obvious problems.  In the meantime, the problem has disappeared.  The full image backup ran on Sunday and the 1st incremental of that set ran yesterday with no problems.
