I purchased a copy of Norton Internet Security 2011 today at Fry's along with a new netbook PC. The sales person said that since
the netbook PC does NOT come with a CD or DVD drive that I would only be using the product key from the package and I would need to download the product from the Norton web site. I opened the disk and got the product key sheet. I read that the Norton web site was symantic.com, so I went there, but the only download I can find is if I first purchase an internet copy of the product I already purchased. How do I install this product of yours without having a CD drive?
The link is here. It should have been included in your instruction sheet. Please make sure that any other security software is removed from the machine first, using the correct removal tool for that product. Let us know if you need a removal tool for any particular product. Reboot, install Norton and input the key. Update until no more are available.
I usually reboot after the installation and before the updating, but that is optional.

Hi, delphinium ... you said, " ... I usually reboot after the installation and before the updating, but that is optional."
I agree that this is a very good practice. I always restart after a new installation so that the new install will be included in the registry hive backup. That way, if something goes wrong, the new install registry entries will be included in the "last known good configuration".
One night long ago, I was downloading and installing a bunch of latest, coolest stuff and was not restarting in between ... one of them crashed and boy did I have a mess on my hands ... (g) ... tin

qg,
Do note that there are Standard and Netbook editions of Norton Internet Security 2011 BUT if you bought a standard copy on CD you cannot install the netbook version from the download of the netbook version and activate it with the standard KEY which I assume is what you bought from Fry's since the Netbook version in the stores comes on a thumbdrive and not a CD for the reasons you know.
Unfortunately the KEYs are not interchangeable although a lot of us are asking Norton for this -- see the Norton Ideas Forum here!
However the standard version will work on the netbook and others here should be able to help you adjust some of the settings. The main difference is that the netbook edition is tuned to fit the smaller wide screens on netbooks and is set not to do any background tasks when you are running on battery, so saving power.
If you only have a netbook then I suggest you take the copy you bought back to Frys and insist on the netbook edition. If they won't refund athen contack Customer Support since Norton have a 60 day money back warranty but I hope you can sort it out.
