Cannot get auto exclusion to work

I have a piece of software, which I have used for years, but it is flagged (false positive) as a trojan.  I reported the false positive to symantec, but, as I would expect, I never got an acknowledgement and the error was never fixed.  At first, I was able to get around the problem by adding the directories involved to scan exclusions and also to auto protect exclusions.  Today, I got new updates through live update and the “enhanced” software deleted the suspected trojan again.  It deletes all copies from the compressed distribution file to the ececutable.  It is really hard to restore things from backups because the anti-virus blocks it and also tries to remove the backup copy.  I have about 10 copies of norton AV, which I am ready to dump and replace with anything else.  I’ve used NAV since bevore it was owned by symantec.
