Cannot install Norton Antitheft - uninstaller loop

I removed N360 from my laptop to try the new beta. I used the Norton removal tool (NRT) for that. I tried out of curiosity to activate Windows Defender, I was unable, but this lead me in a series of discoveries mentioned on this thread http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-360/Windows-Defender-completely-corrupted-won-t-turn-on/td-p/980609

I think NRT messed up with NAT (antitheft) installation. I tried removing NAT from the control panel but apparently only the shortcut was there. I logged on the NAT website and removed my laptop from the devices and tried to add it again so I could get the installer. Now when running the installer, it actually works as an uninstaller which informs me that uninstallation is unsuccessful, prompting for a restart. After restart, the NAT uninstaller launches again automatically, fails again and asks for another restart. This is an endless loop. I had to use CCleaner to remove the two startup entries created by NAT to stop the uninstaller.

I would appreciate any help on how to get back NAT on my laptop.
