Cannot install - too low screen resolution

Hi,

I am trying to install Norton 360 6.0 on a Compaq Mini netbook with a maximum screen resolution of 1024x576.

The first install screen tells me I cannot install because the screen resolution is too low. Is there a workaround on this? I cannot see a minimum screen resolution listed in the minimum requirements.

Hi,

The screen resolution needs to be a minimum of 800 x 600 in order to install Norton 360.  If you need help changing the resolution you can refer to this KB article.

We will take note of this and update the system requirements in a future release.

Thanks,

Chandy

Hi, and thanks for the replies!

The model is a HP Mini 110 10.1 inch running WinXP 32. http://www.trustedreviews.com/HP-Compaq-Mini-110c---10-1in-Netbook_Laptop_review

The maximum screen resolution of the laptop is 1024x576. Does this mean I just cannot run Norton 360 on it at all? This seems to be a bit counter intuitive. I have never had problems with any other application, and that a non-UI-intensive application like Norton 360 will not run seems odd.

Would it be possible to run it as a service only, or through command line?

I have the same HP mini as you do. My resolution is also set 1024 x 576 (XP sp3 ) Tried to set it to 1024 x 600 but it gave me a warning, system will not be stable so I left it alone. I think the new version of Norton 2013 may not work, so I don't bother to install it. Only use the HP mini once in a while any way.

Installed Norton 360 v6  without any problems. First I uninstalled from ad remove and then used the NRT.

Good Luck,

NanaH

Interesting that you can set it. It would be interesting if you could try it since some of these messages are CYA.

But with LCD screens the problem may be that the clarity suffers.

I don't suppose you feel like trying it ..... ?

BTW This is interesting:

read the two messages beginning at

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Display-and-Video/HP-Mini-screen-resolution/m-p/957477#M31122

where the user refers to 600 as the highest and wants higher ... gets it  by a modification of the registry.

If you try this Export a copy of the registry first to a safe place but editing itself is not all that difficult.

Ah here's the explanation:  HP changed the resolution to 1024x600 :

http://myhpmini.com/forum/hp-mini-110-now-ships-1024x600-t1922.html

I wonder if there is a software / firmware upgrade. I'll do some digging and come back on that.

Chris,

I've been checking out the HP Website for the Mini 110c and here's their solution:

Software Installation Stops Because of the Screen Resolution Requirements

Which tells you how to bypass the error message by changing the resolution during installation and then changing it back again ...

HP Compaq Mini 110c that you give is not a complete descriptor since there are a bunch of submodels with more  letters and numbers but the article I reference just says Mini 110c so it should be OK.

Let me know if you have any queries and of course how you get on.

...........I don't suppose you feel like trying it ..... ?...........

Sorry Hugh, was not able to reply because we had some bad weather here, but at least we got some needed rain :). Thank you for the links  I read them all, I will try one of the suggestion, when I'm in a daring mood. Let you know what happen. Have nothing to loose because the only one what uses the HP is my grand kids to play games.

When I installed v6 it never told me to set the resolution higher Hmmmmm. Every thing is working great though.

NanaH

Nanaha,

The link I put in the message to Chris was for you too so it's OK by HP to set the resolution to permit the installation and then reset it to the default on your particular machine (if it should show adverse effects like stability or blurring of the image because LCD screens do not adapt to non-default resolutions like the old CRTs did.

Hi all :smileyhappy:

One thing that might work for installing N360 on the low res Netbook screen

is to connect the Netbook to a TV with a VGA port or a computer monitor using

the VGA port  on the  Netbook  and a VGA cable and use the external monitor

settings normally being one of the F keys like my Netbook's have had ( Acer

and Asus ) .

Might work and might be worth a try and i am sure it will soon tell you if it still

is not compatible with the installation of N360. I will say i have not tried this

before but thought it sounded like a good idea to trick the system.:smileyhappy:

Cheers. :smileywink:
