Do not have CD, I downloaded it originally. I think it would be NIS 2008.

And you definitely downloaded it from Symantec's own website and not via some other link? Did you by any chance already have NIS 2007 installed? Perhaps the download did not install properly -- it should have removed the earlier version as part of the installation.

You can download the latest verions of NIS2008 and use it for the duration of your existing licence from:

New NIS: Click on this link New NIS

If you feel that you have lost out on not having NIS2008 from the time of your download get in touch with Customer Support and explain what happened and you may find that they will sort out the expiry date for your subscription.

NOTE to bystanders -- this answer belongs in a different thread and does not relate to the problem .... mea culpa

The computer has been running fine for months after installing NIS2008. So the problem cannot be the NIS2008.

How can I download anything if the computer will never boot up properly?

My apologies for any confusion -- I mixed up your thread with another I'm in at the same time ...

Sorry about that. Hang on for some suggestions from others.

newtech,

Try starting your computer in SAFE MODE and then run a full NIS 2008 scan.

No matter what mode I try to run the computer it reboots automatically. It starts running but then reboots. I put the XP CD in and if I check reinstall it won’t accept my F8 to approve agreement.

Immediately as a restart begins, can  you get into the Setup or BIOS to change "Boot from drive C" to "Boot from CD"?

Yes, I can get into BIOS. That is how I am able to attempt to attempt to fix or reinstall Windows XP and then run into the F8-approve Windows Agreement issue. When I choose the fix/recovery option it gives me a c prompt.

I downloaded several months ago the NIS2008 so I don't have a CD of it. I may be able to find an older version laying around, but will it do any good since I can't get Windows to work?

Understood.  Have to think about this one.

Windows XP starts to load up but then reboots automatatically before loading completely.

Try to do fix by inserting Windows XP CD.

When I try fix option just puts me in DOS.

When I try reintstall, I canno approve agreement, but can escape from this window.

It appears there is a virus that is blocking me to do anything with XP.

I have Norton Internet Security on the PC. Is there a way to run it in DOS to do a scan?

Which version of NIS is it -- year and version number (Help & Support / About) please.

Have you tried booting to the NIS CD if that is the media that you have?
