Cannot Login to my Norton Account from NIS 2012

I just activated a new installation of NIS 2012.  When I tried to access my Norton Account from the NIS Control Panel - the website came up to the "Forgot Your Password?" Screen - rather than the standard Norton Account Login screen.

When attempting to log in using the "Forgot Your Password?" Screen - after successful login - I am automatically taken to a screen where it says my Account Profile information needs to be updated.  My telephone number is formatted incorrectly - which prevents me from completing the login whether I change the form data or not.

I checked for the login misdirection error on two existing machines (WXP Desktop and WXP Laptop) and on the latest installation on the new machine (W7 Ultimate on new Desktop).  The problem shows up on all three machines.

I can log in successfully at the Norton Account Login Page by using:  https://www.mynortonaccount.com

However, I cannot get there by clicking on the "Account" link from the NIS Control Panel - I get the problem mentioned above.

Furthermore, after I edited my phone number at that "fixit" Account Information screen for the "forgot your password?" site - my phone number was incorrectly formatted in my Profile.  The Area Code processing is completely incorrect on the "fixit" Account Info editing page - showing a "+XX" rather than the "XXX" needed for an Area Code - with only the first two digits of my Area Code listed.  This is nonsense.

There's a buncha things that are borken.  Please fix.  :smileyfrustrated:

Hi twixt,

Sorry no answers for you - but I can verify it is happening in NIS version 21.1.0.18 (2014) also on my Win 7 system.

Hi,

Norton is aware of this issue, see this thread and are working at solving it, as per Mohan_G's post.

Thanks for that Rainbow_2 - I thought it sounded familiar - but couldn't remember where ti was or if it were already reported.

Hi, yank.  Thanks for the heads-up that I was not alone.  I didn't twig to whatever other names were used to identify the problem.

Thanks to all the others who responded.  It's great to know this is recognized - and that a fix is in the works.  Looking forward to having my automation back...  :smileyhappy:

Hi twixt,

Small update -

This issue is resolved now. It is taking me to Norton account page. :):)

Hi, Mohan_G.  Tested and verified correct operation - using NIS 2012 Version 19.9.1.14 - using auto-populate from my NIS 2012 Local Vault  - under Windows XP using IE8 - as well as under Windows 7 Ultimate using IE10.

BTW, IE11 for W7 has been released to General Availability as of Nov 7/2012 - with auto-update through Windows Update phased in over the next several weeks.

See the following:  http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2013/11/07/ie11-for-windows-7-globally-available-for-consumers-and-businesses.aspx

Has the fix been tested under IE11 for W7?  Just looking to ensure a bulletproof response to the upcoming changeover...  :smileyhappy:

Thanks.

As long as you log in to your Norton Account when you get the local vault log in in request and you log in to your norton account so it sync's with other computers message underneath (even if you don't have any other computers of your own)  NIS 19.9.1.14 in xp will bring you to your norton account page, with your info and download infoin it from your UI  Thankyou.......Gorpy1

Hi, Mohan_G.  Further reporting:

This morning, IE 11 for W7 was offered through Windows Update on my W7 Ultimate 64-bit PC.  I updated the Browser - which went seamlessly - and i am now running IE 11 in test mode - with a Ghost Backup in place - to return to previous if necessary.  :smileywink:

My NIS 2012 Version 19.9.1.14 Toolbar addins were automatically accommodated by the IE 11 installer - there was no need to do any manual IE11 reconfiguration or other modifications to allow the toolbar addins to run.

I also logged into a site using Identity Safe with my local Vault - which also worked properly.

And finally, I successfully logged into my Norton Account from the NIS Version 19.9.1.14 Control Panel - the login process screens worked identically to those seen when using IE10.

So far at least - it seems your NIS bulletproofing is really working...  :smileyhappy

However, some little niggles of note:

The very last thing I tried to do when composing this message - I tried to add that "smileyhappy" using the toolbar icon on the compose-message (rich text) page.  The text info for the smiley did not insert at the cursor-location - it inserted at the very top of the message in front of the quoteline "twixt wrote:"  This was repeated when I entered the "smileywink" subsequently in the editing session.

I also noted several instances of cursor-position mishandling under IE11 as I was navigating around in the message editor - where the cursor would not properly locate at the position where I clicked.  The cursor ended up somewhere else - usually at the top of the page or in the editor toolbar.

There were several instances when I clicked on a point in the message editor window to move the cursor to that point - where it required two clicks to get the cursor to actually move to the desired location.

Furthermore, when highlighting a block of text for cut/paste operations - if the textblock is selected from top-of-text to bottom-of-text - the cut/copy items are intermittently grayed-out.  If the textblock is selected from bottom-of-text to top-of-text - the cut/copy items are available and the block can be moved as desired.

I checked the above items multiple times - the errors are repeatable.  I assume this is some compatibility issue with Lithium when using IE11 under W7 (possibly W8/W8.1 as well).  This needs further checking.

Hope this helps.

I also noticed the smiley being inserted at the beginning of the message. This is also possibly a glitch with the new way that IE 11 renders pages. Norton Guru Krusty13 suggested using the site in compatibility mode until things are resolved, which may help.
