Cannot make SMS message to my Android phone lock or scream the phone

I have Norton Anti-Theft and Security installed on my Galaxy Nexus phone and on my Lenovo laptop.  I can use the web interface to lock my phone remotely but I cannot make the SMS methods work.  I have sent SMS messages with the syntax "lock my-password" or "locate my-password" or "scream my-password".  The SMS come through (in clear text) and nothing happens.

 

Is this a known issue?

Any suggestions for making things work?

Hi David8.

 

What are you using to send the messages?  They need to be send from a mobile phone using SMS.  Other applications that emulate SMS are known not to work.

 

Might that be the problem?  Either way please come back and let us know that it now works or that it still does not in which case we will try again.

P.S.  Technically as you are talking about SMS messages I assume you are trying to use the functionality of Norton Mobile Security rather than Norton Anti Theft.  I may therefore as the mods to move your message for better visibility but do not worry a link will remain here.  ;-)

I am sending the text messages using Verizon's vText.com so that may be the problem.  I will test.

 

On your PS...I have two applications showing on my Android phone.  One is Norton Mobile Security (with a subscription) and the other is Norton Anti-Theft.  Should they both be there?

I assume you have bought Norton Mobile Security, correct? With Norton Mobile Security, you are entitled to use Web Anti-Theft which requires the Norton Anti-Theft Plug-In that it sounds like you downloaded onto your phone. So if you want to use the Web Anti-Theft feature, you should leave both applications.

 

Hope that clears up any confusion. Andmike, I think your suggestion to move the post is a good one since this is a Norton Mobile Security issue.
