Cannot re-install N360: "An unrecoverable error has occurred. Please click Technical Support"

GMRD,

I still suspect this as a problem with the permissions, that's what I gather from your install error logs. I would recommend the following steps:

1. Create a new Windows User Account with Administrator privilages.

2. Restart the computer, and log in to the new Windows User Account.

3. Manually uninstall/reinstall the Microsoft .NET framework, you can refer to the following Microsoft article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908077

4. Restart the computer, then click Start > Run

5. In the Run dialog box, type the following text:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\msxml3.dll

6. Click OK.

7. If you see the message "DllRegisterSever in C:\Windows\system32\msxml3.dll succeeded", go ahead with running the Norton removal tool, and reinstalling Norton 360.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Harry.

Sorry for the time to answer but been quite long to actually uninstall everything and put it back.

Unfortunately it did not suceed. Have still the same errors, even though did exactly all as you advised.

I'm thinking about re-installing my previous back-up of the system but this is just sureal to have to come to this when all my softwares are working perfectly besides Norton...

Let me know, thanks

Ok, I am just giving up, spent too much time on this and no improvement.

Thanks all for your help on this nonetheless.

I am just going to install the antivirus I have on another laptop on this computer and install Norton on the other laptop.

How can I free up the licence used for this one now that Norton is not on it anymore?

Thanks

Hi,

To swap security programs do the following on each:

While still connected to the Internet download the correct removal tools for each program onto that computer.

For the Norton computer it is the Norton Removal Tool found here: http://www.symantec.com/nrt/

Disconnect from the Internet and do a control panel uninstall and reboot. Run the removal tool and reboot

Install the security product of choice and reconnect to the Internet to complete the activation and do the necessary updating.

If you get the message that you have exceeded your installations contact the customer support folks here:

http://us.norton.com/support/contact/contact.jsp?pvid=cs

They can only help you with the Norton products but they do that very well.

Let us know if you need more help

Thanks for your help

You are most welcome.

I wouldn't call the problem 'solved' but I do think you have ended the dialog on trying to solve this one. Please do me the favor of clicking on the message that was most helpful to indicate to others that this thread issolved/closed/ended. It's only housekeeping but it does make things easier when you're scanning for places to assist users.

Maybe next time :smileywink:

Thanks

In this instance, the solution button probably isn't the way to go.  It would erroneously indicate on a search that a solution was found, which isn't actually the case.

I have only seen two occasions, including this one, where it was simply not possible to install for one reason or another.  It does rarely happen.
