Hello
Please help. My HP desktop computer (circa 2005) has died. I was running windows XP, and backed up my files to an external hard drive using Norton 360 from comcast. I decided to replace the old computer with a new Mac. I went to a reputable local Mac only store and they said that they would try to retrieve the data from the dead desktop and that they would at least be able to get the files from the backed up external hard drive. well the internal hard drive is beyond dead, but they were able to move the files from the external hard drive to the new desktop. when I returned to the store to pick up the new computer, I asked for a brief over view. they showed me where the backed up files were reloaded, but all that was there was norton encrypted files.
I called norton and the said that since the backed up filed were created using a windows based computer, only i windows version of N 360 would be able to retrieve the files. their solution was to borrow a friends windows computer and download a trial version of N 360 backup, and retrieve the files.
So I went back to the store (since I don't have friends), and asked them if they have a Mac computer with the "parallel" program so they can use windows to retrieve the data. well, after hours of work, they could not get the data retrieved.
I am not sure which version of windows they were using or which version of norton 360 they dowloaded.
I need some help, please. I have a work colleague who is a computer whiz who said he can help, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice.
I don't now which version of N 360 i used. does this matter. does is matter which windows version is used if the backed up files were created using a computer running windows XP.
thanks for your expertise and advice
Michael
ps. I do have friends, but my wife might throw me out if i don't retrieve all the children's photos.
