Hi there,
In August my laptop got a virus and became unusable. I spent a whole day trying to sort it out but eventually had to give and buy a new laptop because I had some urgent work that had to be sent the next day.
I managed to install Norton 360 on the laptop, which came with the new laptop on a 3 user licence.
I can only start the laptop in Safe Mode (with or without networking). I can run a scan, which finds no viruses but I cannot run Live Update in Safe Mode with Networking.
Is there a way of scanning the laptop from a USB stick (or perhaps from my desktop PC) ??
If anyone can help please let me know.
Many thanks
Tom.
Hi tomcross79:
Installing an antivirus product into an already infected machine usually does not work properly. Most of the malware these days protects itself very well, especially if it is well established.
If there was another security software product on the machine at the time of installation, it will also interfere. Some antivirus products prevent changes to the registry which prevents the removal of the malware in certain situations.
I would recommend a visit to one of these free malware removal forums, as they have expert volunteers trained to remove malware safely from the machine.

Thanks for your reply. I have thrown it back in the corner for now, but when my blood pressure goes back to normal I will have another go.
I fiddled with the user accounts and managed to login (only through pressing F8 each time while the laptop loaded and selected "Use last known working configuration"). I installed Norton 360 v.4 which I have a spare licence for, but it will not run. Initially after installation it appears to be working, but on reboot it will not start with out running its Online Help service.
At least now I know I can recover some of the files from it.
Is there a way of scanning the laptop from another PC using a network? I can't think of another way of doing it.
The most annoying thing is that it is probably the same people spreading the viruses that work for the antivirus companies!
Many thanks

I have a virus on my laptop..i have tried to download NORTONS free 30 day trial but will not load on to the desktop to enable me to remove the virus..i hope some one can help as this virus is eating away at my laptop...i should have updated my antivirus...!!! Thanks Vicki
I used the Windows Malware removal tool, which removed 4 things - no idea what, but it works a bit better since. Search for it on Google.

You can download and burn the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool (for N360) from here. You can then boot to the tool and scan your laptop / PC with the tool (disk or USB device) without having to boot the laptop or PC infected OS. You may have to have your activation key code to run the tool as N360 seems to not run properly on your machine. Let us know the outcome of this. Thanks.
