I uninstalled N360. After that I didn't restart the computer. Maybe that's the problem.
Since then I have ran Norton Removal Tool several times and the ESET installer still complains about N360 being present. What should I do?

Several reboots and several NRT runs after, still no success. Control Panel does not list N360.
Hi marczellm,
You mentioned ESET installer - is ESET installed or partially installed and which ESET product was it?
You can try the following to banish Norton from your system:
Please open Run by pressing windows key + R -> devmgmt.msc -> View Show Hidden devices -> open Non-Plug and Play Drivers-> Maximize the Screen
Go to the maximized page -> if you find NAVENG, NAVEX15, Norton Antivirus settings manager, starting from Symantec
Data Store to SymEvent (entries starting with Sym) ->right click on them -> click uninstall -> For the Restart prompts select no -> Goto Program files -> if you find Norton Folder delete it -> Goto Run ->type temp ->Delete all the files in there -> Run -> %temp% ->delete all ->Now Restart the PC -
Now try the ESET installer again and see if complains about N 360 still being installed.
Let us know how it went for you and reply if you'd any difficulties

There is no ESET software installed yet.
I have removed all Norton files. The Norton support agent has removed all registry entries. There is no Norton or Symantec stuff in Non Plug-and-Play Drivers.
Additionally the following issue appears:
- At computer startup I have to wait 5-10 minutes before I can start Skype, Google Talk, Firefox, and a bunch of other software.
- If I attempt a shutdown during this period, it gives me an error which says 'DDE Server Window does not respond.'
- All programs scheduled to run at startup are running as seen in Process Explorer or Task Manager, but they don't work until after this period. Including the XP builtin taskbar wireless indicator.
This issue appeared directly after the failed Norton uninstall, so it must be related. I have tried disabling all startup items but the issue still remains.

The driver stuff from Yank is very clever.
I doubt that Norton agent would remove all traces. That surely would not be in their interest. Anyway, if you are comfitable with the registry, I would suggest getting ERUNDT or LifesaverXP, then allow one of them to backup your registry. Then if you make mistake or go to far, its easy to go backwareds.
Go into your registry and search for Norton, symantec and remove traces with care. Reboot
Are you getting the advice from Windows that you have no av installed?
Hi marcczellm,
Have a look at the folowing link - perhpas it can assist.

What Norton agent did was search in the registry for 'Norton' and delete all entries containing this, so that eventually the search returned no results. Windows does complain that there is no security product installed.
Hi marczellm,
I have seen in the past where somehow the uninstall got corrupted and bits and pieces of the progma is left behind - but unreachable (perhaps unlocatable may be a better word) thru normal means. the solution has been to reinstall the product that whose uninsatll was corrupted. That said - which N 360 product & version did you have installed and was it the Standard or the Premiere version?
What you would have to do is reinstall the version and edition opf N 360 that was previously installed. Once installed, unistall it via the Control Panel, reboot and then run the Norton Removal Tool and reboot. After that, try the ESET install again and see if it detects the N360.
Tell us the version and edition and we'll give you a download for it.

Maybe they should delete all entries commencing symantec. Because I can tell you that entries exist under Symantec that do not also include the key word "Norton". However, make backup copy first.
I have already tried reinstall & reuninstall but for no success. It was the latest Norton 360, the one you can download from
http://hu.norton.com/downloads-trial-norton-360
, only a full licence.
On the other hand, the problem mysteriously solved itself when I attempted to start MS Word and it started a Windows Installer window saying 'Configuring MS Office' or something like that. After that Word started normally. I didn't do anything else related, I swear! At the next startup everything was fine. I since re-enabled all startup items and there is still no problem yet.
Oppps - hit Post instead of Cancel!
Well, now that is amazing - unless MS Word had something to do with the DDE server Window error you had before.
Bottom line - glad you got it sorted!
