Cannot Uninstall Saftey Minder

Thanks

Hi,

I am having a similar problem when trying to uninstall norton safety minder. After clicking on uninstall the program appears to work as it collects and compresses the error logs but after this is completed an error appears saying that a problem has occured and to click on the link below (problem is there is no link below!). This stops me from being able to reinstall the minder and it is currently not running on the problem computer. Can you please help??

Hmm, uninstall should not collect and compress error logs unless someone has removed or tampered with the system in some way.

You may have to run the Norton removal tool, be aware however it will remove all Norton products on that system.

Norton Removal Tool

After you run the tool you should be able to reinstall at that point.

Note: sometimes Norton Safety Minder is recognized as WinFax, this is normal and will remove Norton Safety Minder correctly.

I also am having problems with safty minder. I am getting the framework error message when I boot up the computer. I followed the instructions and copied the files to the desktop and sent the email. I have not got any responces to the email yet. I have also tried to uninstall and then was going to reinstall to see if that would solve the problem but like the others. It wont uninstall either. It just locks up the computer. Please help !!!

I have not received any emails yet. Except the one saying I got a thread from you.

Ignore the last thread I found the email you sent me

Thanks

I am having this same problem and am very frustrated! What do I do!

[Uninstall stays on "Preparing" for hours and never goes to the next step]

[Same problem as the 1st initial post of this thread.]

Brad,

Are you saying that you get a framework crash and then you are trying to uninstall?

That is what the original post says. If in fact you are getting a framework crash there is another post on this forum asking for the dump of that crash. (when programs stop they create "dump" files, these help us analyze what happened).

I am unable to get the user account password for the Safety Minder on my machine to synch up with the account password on the web site.  I would like to uninstall Safety Minder locally and reinstall but the app won’t accept my password.  How can I remove it when my authentication fails?

jbmoulton,

Take a look at message 20 in this exact thread, it describes exactly how to do what you want.

Matt

I downloaded and ran the removal tool but it popped up a message that it needed to have WinFax Pro manually removed before it could proceed.  I do not have an instance of WinFax Pro so I’m assuming that it is interpreting the Child Safety Minder tool as WinFax Pro.  I cannot manually remove the Safety Minder tool due to the synch problem for passwords between the local app and the user account on the web site.

Message 20 says nothing of running the Norton Removal Tool, in fact the issue of WinFax pro is a known problem with running the Norton Removal Tool and Norton Safety Minder.

For clarity, here is message 20 again:

Ok so instead of everyone continuing to post I can't uninstall because my password doesn't work, I will post instructions on how to do it here.

However if you are a child trying to work around the system, this will not work as your parent is notified when Norton Safety Minder is uninstalled.

I say that because I believe there are "newbies" here trying to remove the software :smileywink:

step 1, remove your network cable

step 2, uninstall - this will cause your system to not check the password as it will be unable to without the network

That's it.

Hi,

I'm having a very similar problem.  I installed Safety Minder but it was not blocking any web sites.  I verified the setting multiple time (to block all categories) and tried it on multiple user accounts.  I received the same results were no site were categorized and there none were block.  If I explicitly marked a site to block then it would work.  I tried uninstalling safety minder, but the computer froze up on the uninstall.  After a reboot, every time I run the installer it tries to continue the uninstall, hit an error, gathers logs, compress them, and (if I choose to) send the logs.  However it says to continue by clicking the link below but there is no link.  I can't get the program to finish the uninstall so I can install again.  I'd like to give your product a fair test.  Can you please help resolve this issue?  Thanks.

Hi Hi There,

I too am unable to unintall this product, I am running Windows Vista, the product builds the log to unintall and then get the error message 'unable to uninstall', it then sends a report to Symantec.

I have tried the suggested, unplug the network cable etc.  but this didn't work either.

Let me know what I need to do.  Thanks.
