Cannot update definitions

I have just installed Symantec Antivirus 10.1.8.8000 under Windows XP.  When I went to download the latest definitions (it loads with 8/25/2008 becuase that's when I bought the product) I get the message that "All Symantec products installed on your computer are currently up to date...", but obviously they are not.  So I tried to install the defs manually - the file downloaded, I ran it, but it finished with the message:

 

Intelligent updater session complete.

All updates failed to install on the machine. For more details check the log file Log.IntelligentUpdater.txt..."

 

However that file can't be found anywhere on my machine.

 

I suspect I may have a virus which is preventing me from updating the definitions?  Any suggestions please?

I believe that the version you have is part of the Enterprise collection of Norton Products and you may be able to get assistance from their support site:

I would request all users using Symantec AntiVirus 10 to migrate to Latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.

Currently, the Latest version of SEP product is SEP 12.1.3001
