Can't access Drobo across network

I am going to request one of the Symantec rreps to have a look.  The fact that it is accessible through the net puts a whole new slant on the matter.

Any new ideas?

Apparently Orb makes the Drobo a "shared drive."  Is there a way to convince Windows that the the Drobo is a shared drive for the network.  Try clicking on the drive to properties and choose "shared."

Then the other computers should be able to see it in network map.  Set the Drobo in each one to Shared.  You will have to do the same in the host computer.

I haven't heard back from the Symantec rep as yet.  A couple of us are reduced to throwing chicken bones in thebackground trying to figure it out.

KenB -

Did you try the steps or suggestions in these KB articles?  http://support.datarobotics.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/122/session/L3NpZC84TVNGb1oxaw%3D%3D/kw/xp/r_id/100004/sno/1

You can also try the following:

Remove the Drobo from your system devices from Device Manager (leave the device attached to your system).

Open Security Suite and go to Settings > Firewall > General Settings > Firewall Reset (this will reset all the firewall rules to default settings).  Click OK all the way out to close the Security Suite.

Then, in Device Manager, have your system scan for any hardware changes (have the Drobo attached at this time also).  Windows should find the Drobo and install all the drivers for the device.

See if you can access the drives from a different computer on your network.  If not, Open the Security Suite and check that Automatic File / Printer Sharing is ON in the Settings > Firewall > General Settings.

The Drobo shows up on the other computers on the network but access is denied.

I tried removing the Drobo, resetting firewall, install Drobo and turning share back on, still can't access.

I turned of "Smart Firewall" to see if traffic would get through and it's still denied.

Edit:

I added an entry for IRPStackSize and set it to 20.  As of right now, I am able to access the Drobo across the network.  I have files to backup from the other pcs and will reboot afterwards and and see if this "sticks".

With the access being enabled with the IRPStackSize change, then this sounds like it's a XP issue and not a firewall isue.  Keep us posted about how the system works now with the change.  Thanks.

Hi KenB:

I definitely have my fingers crossed on this one.   :smileyhappy:
