Sorry to hear about the news. In windows vista, updates are no longer done through the update website. To update your pc search “windows update” with the search feature in your start menu. In addition, with the gadgets, can you try searching for “restore windows gadgets” in your search menu. You can also try starting sidebar.exe using run.
What you are saying that it was working perfectly before Norton scan? If this is the case, you can try using system restore to restore your computer to the time before the problem. Be sure to turn off tamper protection in misc setting (last setting section before parental control). If you don’t disable this, system restore WILL fail as Norton prevents change to its files, which system restore do. Also, was your computer infected by any type of virus?
Not sure why, but everything is working again now.
Reinstalled both products and no difference.
Ran a few cleanups, registry, disk, stopped and started a few services and at some point it's started working.
Mail works and NIS doesn't report the dll is safe. Windows update form appears, and gadgets are visible (didn't need to reselect them it just returned as it was).
I've tried to break it again to find the exact cause but can't.
