I had to replace the motherboard of my computer with a new one (of the same make and model). Once I rebooted, NIS said I had to reactivate. At first it appeared to go well, but the next time I booted it said that I had exceeded the number of allowable installations. I looked up the FAQ instructions for that, and successfully deleted the original install for that computer in my Norton account. My account now says that I have 1 install left, but when I try to reactivate NIS it still tells me that have exceeded the allowable number of installations. I uninstalled NIS and reinstalled, but the same thing still happens when I try to activate.
Should I have tried something different? Could anyone please let me know if there's a solution for this. Thanks!
That worked! When I reinstalled the last time, I did it from the files that I downloaded for my initial install, but the new download worked and activated itself (I confirmed this on my Norton account, as it now says I have no installs left). The new download even had a cool new user interface (does this mean that I got upgraded from NIS 2012 to 2013, since my subscription runs through next Feb?). I guess this means that the old download was preauthorized for the install that I was having the reactivation problem with, -hence its refusal to activate!
You are very welcome - glad you got it sorted out. It sounds like you got the upgrade - you can check by clicking on Support and then About on the mainpage of NIS and it should show version 20.1.1.2. Also to be on the safe side, I would suggest running LiveUpdate (rebooting if requested) as many times as it takes for LiveUpdate to respond "no updates found".

If this means that it used up an activation when reinstalling and that you should still have one left (ie only two PCs) then contact CHAT as indicated by Yank since they can reset the count to give an available activation for future use -- just tell the about the rebuild.
Right, that's the version number I now have. It looks like Live Update ran during the install, as NIS was fully up to date once the install was finished. Also, it looks like the new install file I downloaded came with a very recent definition set (dated the previous day) so the install didn't have much additional to update.
