Can't get NIS 2009 to work or Reinstall after Live Update

I just purchased NIS 2009 by download and installed it a couple weeks ago. I had been using N360 and I uninstalled it prior. After the lastest live update an unspecified error caused it to quit. Since then, I have downloaded the removal tool and followed all directions, but each time I try to run the lasted install file it goes straigt from "installing drivers" to "collecting error report", then uninstalls and suggests I restart and try again. I tried Norton Support, but they took forever, did the same routine in safe mode with the same results before stopping some system services that severed our connection. I need help accessing my error logs and finding the specific issues on my machine. I'm running windows vista on a sony vaio laptop with Norton Ghost 14.0 also installed.
