Can't get Online Family to do much of anything correctly

I just signed up for OnlineFamily and downloaded SafetyMinder. I've configured everything to monitor my daughter's account, with website blocking turned on.  When I log into her account, the system tray icon with the paw is there, but nothing is being prevented and very little is being monitored.  I can still visit websites (via Firefox 3.6.10), none of them are blocked, and none of them are logged either.  I googled several "bad" keywords as well.

So far, I've gotten only three items in the All Activity list, namely three of the google searches (even though I dd more than that).  Any ideas?  I'm running XP SP3.

As an update, it appears to be logging YouTube and Google searches, and I'm also being notified of time control warnings.  But there still appears to be no web monitoring or logging at all.  Web supervision is turned on and configured to block sites.  I even tried IE 7 in lieu of Firefox and that doesn't work, either.

Hi bimbert84,

1. Do you have the Web Supervision turned on for the kid account at Settings -> Web?

2. How about add a website (for testing purpose) to the black list at "Specific Web sites to block" to see if it gets blocked when trying to access it?

3. Is your kid Windows user account a domain account.

4. Do you see "XXX (your kid profile name)  is protected in green at Settings -> Profile?

Thanks,

Katie

Hi Katie,

Yes.

2. How about add a website (for testing purpose) to the black list at "Specific Web sites to block" to see if it gets blocked when trying to access it?

OK, tried that.  It neither blocks the site nor notifies me that it was accessed.

3. Is your kid Windows user account a domain account.

I'm not sure what that means.  How do I tell?

4. Do you see "XXX (your kid profile name)  is protected in green at Settings -> Profile?

Yes.

Hi bimbert84,

What security product(s) are installed on the PC?

What security product(s) are installed on the PC?

Ad-Aware

AVG Anti-Virus (Free)

WinPatrol

This link talks about Firefox not working under OpenDNS.  My problem is very different: Firefox and IE work fine, but OnlineFamily does not block or log any pages.  It does seem to be logging web searches via Google and YouTube, though.

bimbert84,

It seems to be a compatibility issue.  Please check out the link below for details.

The only applicable compatibility issue in the list has to do with SafetyMinder not working after AVG gets installed.  This isn't the case for me since I had AVG installed first.  Nevertheless, I followed the suggested solution of rebooting, and to no avail: still no blocking or logging of websites.

Hi bimbert84,

Thanks for the update.  You mentioned "This isn't the case for me since I had AVG installed first."  I probably missed what  you meant, but if you have AVG installed on the PC, no matter it has been installed before or after Norton Safety Minder is installed, it could cause some compatibility issues.

Is it possible that you uninstall AVG for a little while for testing purposes to see if Online Family works fine afterward?

If  you have any questions, please let us know.

Thanks,

Katie

I am having the same issue here....I did remove AVG completely from my system and I am still having the same issue of Norton Safety Minder only logging a few sites.  This is driving me crazy....HELP!!!!!!!!!

Hi mhkkcf4,

What happens if you logon to the PC with the Windows account which is not being monitored?

For the Windows account that is being monitored, what the categories of websites at Settings -> Web are being blocked?

Thanks,

Katie
