An update of NIS2009 can not be installed. Definitions Norton 2009 Web Protection, Updates phishing Web sites to verify authentic Websites, error 8920, 200. Status: Not completed. Criticality Update: Critical. Who has also experienced and has a solution.
Reinstall the program and Live Update does not help. The manually update (list date) doesn't help.

Reboot and run LU again.

Restart your computer. Run Live Update again or Download Virus Definition from here to run manually update.

Ummm Already said that znmng.

Everything in this forum recommended I run several times. Nothing helps. I also have Ghost 14.0. The manual Live Update opens here. On Wednesday the problem occurred. The whole of Thursday and Friday I'm working on it.  I chatted twice with Symantec and got not advice or solutions. I think I remove NIS2009 for the sixth time en replace NIS2008. Next year I don't use a Norton product. Who pays me some twenty workinghours?. I pay for a product and it should work well. There were no problems. I uses Norton 360 and always Norton Internet Security Products. Also Internet Explorer and Outlook Express don't work properly. Sometimes the websites opens slow en the program doesn't respond anymore. The result is, I send about twenty error rapports to Microsoft.

There is a hot fix being worked on and should be released soon to address issues with Live Update.

This might be a good place to point this out, again.

Most people's computers are probably in fine shape and upgrade with no problems.

Some people's computers are a crash-waiting-to-happen.  They have been tinkered with, modified up the wazoo.  Then something standard comes along and is installed and just bumps right into one of those modifications.  Boom!

Not every failure of Norton to install correctly is Norton's fault.

+1 +2 +3…100% agreed mijcar. My NIS 2009 runs perfect.

I don't understand this, wath is tinkered with, and modified up the wazoo? Ik had NIS2008 and there were no problems. I installed NIS2009 and there were problems. I don't install other programs. What is the matter?

Cheers Mo

Hi The_Hulk

For what its worth I have just checked my Emails and this is the response from Symantec support (I haven't done it as yet as I wanted to see if you had tried this)Download Intelligent updater follow step 2>then restart PC and run live update ,Now there is a second URL given to run live update? Then it says "to check for the issue"Can someone explain why I would need to use the 2nd URL to run live update?I hope this makes sense to you guys, sorry if I 've missed something in the translation.

Cheers Mo

Hi Mo :smileyhappy:

Sorry to here you're having problems :smileysad:

Last Week... Do you remember I had problems updating?

I had 2 computers that wouldn't update

NIS 09 .. Wouldn't update on my Laptop

AVG 8 ..  Wouldn't update on my Desktop

I really thought I was infected with something nasty :smileysad:

However... I Did Manage To Fix Both Computers :smileyvery-happy:

I Downloaded - SAS :smileywink:

Made sure SAS was Fully Updated.

Then... Ran a Full Scan in Safe Mode ... Letting SAS Kill The - Cookies

I don't know why or how it worked!

All I know Is... It Worked! :smileyvery-happy:

Both computers are updating normally again :smileywink:

I know some people think I'm crazy :smileysad:

Coz I say it must have been some kind of malicious Cookie ... Causing The Trouble!

I Don't Blame Them!

I'd have probably thought the same thing ... If it hadn't happened to me.

But what are the odds?

2 .. Separate Computers

2 .. Totally Different Security Software

Both ... Can't Get Security Updates ... From - Big Name Software ( e.g. NIS 09 & AVG 8 )

And The Only Thing That Got My Updates Back...

Running a Full Scan in Safe Mode - With SAS ... And Letting It Kill The - Cookies

From Last Week!

Have a look at my last post on page : 1 ...

 http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=11670&view=by_date_ascending&page=1

Oh By The Way...

I was wrong about seeing iexplorer .exe on my Desktop Computer.

It Was In Fact.... iexplore .exe

IE7 ... Stuck!

I think my little lad has got a bit lazy ... And Not Exiting his Online game properly :smileymad:

Perhaps The_Hulk Could Try SAS Too! :smileyhappy:

SAS : http://www.superantispyware.com/

Note : You only need the Free SAS :smileywink:

Hi Zana

The only problem I am having with liveupdate is 1 update not installing all the others are fine,I got rid of my cookie cruncher Ad-Aware2008(free version) recently as it was slowing down alot (I think it and norton were having an issue in the background)So I am feeling a little undefended on that aspect.I will be trying nortons tech advice in the morning when I may be brighter!!!!LOL

Cheers Mo

They have deleted my topic!!!! Ho has done this?

I have already done this several times, but nothing seems to help! The update can still not be installed and they are now trying to say that my PC would not be fine. The update is' critical 'and yet NIS2009 remains to say that the system is safe??? This is evidently not true. The service of Norton is seriously inadequate. I already reinstalled the program about six times, done manually updates, Live Update restored and reinstalled. Nothing helps. Symantec doesn't want E-mails and I contacted Symantec twice by chat. You fill in all personal details and give a description of the problem and the next question from the employee is: 'What is your problem. " So you can make quick progress solving the problem!!! But they have no solution. I don't understand, the problem was at the first time Wednesday and they still offer the update. It is a shame. On every forum in the Netherlands this issue stands. Symantec is incapable to solve his own problems.

Hi Mo :smileyhappy:

Yep!

Yours and The_Hulks problem... Is definitely different to mine :smileysad:

I Couldn't Get Any Updates!

In A Strange Way... My Problem Did Me A Favour :smileywink:

If I hadn't had problems updating NIS 09... I would never have installed - SAS

Why?

Because I would have been too scared... NIS 09 and SAS would - Clash!

The Difference With SAS - To Say... Something like your Ad-Aware 2008 or Spybot S&D...

It doesn't Run on the computer all the time :smileywink:

The Free version of SAS - Is Only... ON Demand!

If you Un-Tick the box " Start Up With Windows "

SAS doesn't even start up with the computer.

And it only updates... When You Click - Update

As long as you do keep SAS updated... It's always there for emergency's :smileyhappy:

Hope you manage to get your problem sorted soon :smileywink:

Hi The_Hulk :smileyhappy:

From Past Experience...

I Can Agree... Symantec Support Is Terrible! :smileymad:

Like I also said to Mo...

I hope you manage to get your problem sorted soon :smileywink:

Try living in the present then -- Symantec support here is superb. It's open and honest about faults and constructive with help.

Hi huwyngr :smileyhappy:

I wasn't talking about this Forum

This forum is the best move Symantec have ever made :smileyhappy:

I was talking about the real - Symantec Support

You Know...

The one where you click on - Contact Support

Then sit looking at your computer for hours ... While you wait in a queue. :smileysad:

Then once you finally get through the queue ... You're asked a thousand times - " What exactly is the problem "

Then... If they don't take over your computer.. And get you in a worse mess :smileysurprised:

They Cut You Off! :smileymad:

My last experience with Symantec Support wasn't all that long ago.

But it was certainly my last.

Not Worth The Hassle :smileymad:
