Hi,
I previously had Spyware Doctor for over 10 years and now using Norton Internet Security (NIS) on all three of my computers for babout 6 months now. All has been excellent untill I installed Win7 on my old XP machine yesterday that had NIS running beautifully. I took it for granted that I could just reinstall NIS on my new Win7 OS, but when I try to "Add Service" a message comes up.... 'You do not have any installs remaining. You can protect more devices by purchasing more installs."
This is of course not true as I still should have the new Win7 install on the same machine that had NIS using XP. So can somebody please tell me how to get my 3rd computer safe with NIS?
Thanks.... Mike
Since the XP PC no longer "exists" but the system does not know that, the Windows 7 is treated as an additional activation.
You don't say exactly where you are with installing NIS on the upgraded machine and how you moved to Windows 7 -- as I'm sure you know you can't do an in place upgrade from XP and have to reinstall everything. So I'm assuming you have a copy of NIS installed on the Windows 7 machine but can't activate it.
All you have to do is to log into your Norton Account on one of the machines, locate the installation which had XP and use the Dustbin icon to deactivate that installation.
That does not uninstall the software on that hardware so boot up that now Windows 7 machine and open the Norton.
Where it says Subscription Status at the bottom it should be enough to click on Renew and after a moment click on Have existing key and then enter the key there.
You don't say what version of NIS you have so the words may differ slightly but if you have a problem please ask and let us know how you get on.
PS Some of us are slower than ohers ..... <g>
Thanks Dave... will keep you posted on how I go.
As far as installation goes... I havent done that yet... it is at the NIS weeb page that they refuse to allowme to "ADD" another installation. I dont think I have ever actually downloaded an exe file to install....think its all done via the web link. Like one of those little installer files that cnet use... you dont actually get a full installation file.
Anyway, soon I will find out :)
BTW... it takes me several goes to try and make the Word verication work when posting each message. These are the hardest ones to read I ever saw lol.
