I have a three license copy of Norton 360. I have it on two laptops but cannot ever install on our main computer. The removal tool will not install and it says I have a copy of Norton Winfax on the machine, which I cannot locate. Also, each time I open an attachment, a box comes up saying "Preparing to Install" then "Please wait while Norton configures Norton Antivirus 2006", then "The MSI must be launched through setup." This happens three times in a row before any attachment is opened - every time!!! There is no Norton Antivirus 2006 on the machine. It was removed years ago when I tried to upgrade. Even if I try to activate another different anti-virus installation, it finds tons of Norton "errors" that it reports. All temporary files have been removed. Any suggestions or ideas? I like Norton, but it does not like this machine.
I have just done a Google search on Norton Winfax. This article may point you in the right direction. Also a thread here from this community may add extra information.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you need more advice.
Follow the Instructions given in here. Then do a Restart->Open Run(Win key + r) -> devmgmt.msc -> View ->Show Hidden Devices->Non-Plug and Play Drivers->Right click and uninstall any Driver that starts with NAV, Symantec (Select no for restart prompts, once you are done with them all Restart the PC).
