Can't launch exe files - and other issues

Right I've just spent four figures on a wndows 8 laptop and for the first time bought 3rd party anti virus - beginning to wish I hadn't. Grateful for any assistance with following

 

My main problem is that i cannot launch downloaded exe files. I download and they won't auto lanch. I launch them as administrator from Downloads folder and nothing happens. The workaround is to add them in the Manage Firewall option in Norton and change to Allow status. But then I have to restart the pc before they'll launch. No way am I doing this every time. They worked fine before I put Norton on

 

Any ideas anyone please ?

 

 

Other issues

 

- Norton Identity Safe kees crashing in google chrome

- my Backup in Norton fails more often than it works - and how do i do a full scan without backup as well ??

- A full scan takes 5-6 hours ?? Have to do it overnight

 

 

I am going to give it a few more days and see if it improves else will uninstall Norton. It really is stressing me out and can't go on like this.

Can you please check if Windows Defender and the Windowd Firewall are turned off? These should not be running with the Norton product.

 

When you bought the machine, did you have any security product preinstalled on it?

Hi

 

All my settings for these are showing as off with a message tht the settings are controlled by Norton 360 ? Is this right

 

Google chrome now taking an age to launch initially too - is this due to the identity safe ?

Can you please give us some info about your machine's configuration?

CPU, memory, VGA, Windows version and architecture (32- or 64-bit).

This is important - we need an answer as if there was something installed it could be causing a conflict.

I have no pre installed security software

 

Not sure if I have right details here ( details below from system ifo) but heres what i found in Directx tool

 

CPU - intel core i7-3630qm  2.4ghz 2.4ghz

VGA - Intel R HD Graphics 4000 (this the right info ??)

Memory - 12288mb ram

Windows 8 - 64 bit

Please try this out:

 

1. Disconnect the machine from the internet

2. Try to run an exe file (what happens?)

3. On the system try (by the system clock) right click on the Norton icon

4. Click on Disable Smart Firewall

5. Select time duratuion to 15 minutes, and click OK

6. Try to run an exe file (what happens?)

7. Turn Smart Firewall back

8. Reconnect to the internet

uhh right so I just went to do this and bizarrely after I have booted up I cannot launch Norton 360 at all ??

 

i double click on it and it tries to launch then nothing ??

 

its there in all programs - anyone any ideas on this ?

further news - after a few minutes something called Norton Autofix kicked in and started running

 

After 6-7 minutes of that running I now have the message....

 

 

"We were unble to find an automated fix for this issue. Please visit our support website"

 

 

This is turning into the worst £30 purchase I have ever made......

And another thing.

 

Whilst Norton isn't currently working or running I have just successfully downloaded and run Amazon MP3 Downloader exe file. First time I been able to do this with an exe file sice installing Norton.

 

Unles I can get a solution to my issue I will be uninstalling and sticking with Defender.

Hello - can anyone help me ?

 

Norton just tried to update but failed to apply patch and said I must restart laptop to fix - I clicked that option then my laptop froze on restart screen.

 

 

Can someone please tell me how to remove Norton. I will then try it once again on a reinstall from desk .

 

Please someone !!! I'm desparate here !!
