Hopefully you can help. I have read over similiar problems here. But may be a new wrinkle
First I am running a Dell Studio series desktop with Windows 7 with latest patches and NIS 21.3.1.22. Previously I have had no problems running NIS.
This morning, on boot up, there was a warning in the lower right that Norton had detected a threat. It was gone before I could read it so I went to launch NIS and check the history. It wouldnt open. Further, at one point the solve PC issuesd showed both Norton anti-virus and the firewall disabled.
I did a restart and this time deleted Norton using the Norton removal tool (the auto remove and restore wouldnt work) and restored via my account on the Norton website. I did all the updates. I did, as suggested, download the free verison of Malwarebytes and did a complete scan which took over an hour. It did detect 3 programs for removal. The three removed were Spyware Zbot, adware download and a trojan dropper. After allowing the removal and reboot I once again got the Norton warning and this time had enough time to read it. It said it was a Webb attack Fake AV download. However I could not get Norton to open when clicking on the information.
Currently the little Norton Icon does have a check mark. I did a quick scan and can do updates. But when I try to open NIS, the first time, it opens for a few seconds and disappears and wont reappear. History doesnt work either. At a loss where to go from here. Your help appreciated.
