I am trying to upgrade to the 2009 package, but need to uninstall the pre-installed NIS 2005 on my HP Pavilion first. I have tried the Add/Remove Programs and this freezes part of the way through the uninstall, I have tried the Removal Tool and this does the same (usually on Deleting Symantec Event Manager or Deleting Symanted Core LC or Deleting SPBBCDrv). I have looked on the HP website and their solution involves downloading SymNRT.exe which is out of date so transfers me back to the current Removal Tool.
When following the HP solution I did notice that 'Symantec Event Manager' was not part of the msconfig Services list.
I have tried all of the above in the Safe Mode and the same thing happens
