Can't update NIS via LiveUpdate

Hello, I am a user of NIS 2012 v 19.9.1.14 and for the past few weeks I haven't been abl to update it via LiveUpdate. It always shows 'Failed to complete' message. I have quite a fast internet connection so I don't think the problem is in my internet connection. I am forced to download the virus definitions manually from the site.

FYI I have disabled the LiveUpdate features and I updated it manually only when my NIS shows notification. Usually about every 4 days.

When I click 'Summary' the ones that are faild to be completed are:

- Norton 2012 Web Protection Definitions

- Norton 2012 IPS Definitions

- Norton 2012 WHitelist

- Norton 2012 Reputation Revocation List

Can somebody help me to find out what's wrong?

Hello, my operating system is Win 7 64 bit (not yet SP1). I have updated my NIS 2012 to the 19.8 version after a LiveChat representative told me so. But I still can't update fully via Live Update. Currently the failed ones are:

- Norton 2012 Web Protection Definitions

- Norton 2012 IPS Definitions

If I am to upgrade to 2013 version while I still have subscription for 2012 version, will I need to pay / buy again?

Thanks!

No, you need not buy again. Upgrade from NIS2012 to NIS2013 is free. You can upgrade by right clicking the NIS tray icon and selcting "Check for New Version"

Try clicking on Support - Get Support to run  Autofix to check your installation and fix what it finds.

If that does not fix things, you should try the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.

Download the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool from here   www.norton.com/nrnr
If you use Identity Safe, backup/export your data. Use the CSV format for compatibility.
Run the Norton Removal and Reinstall Tool.
Reboot.
Run LiveUpdate manually a few times, rebooting as necessary, until no updates are available.
Try to log into your Identity Safe. If you can, you are done. If not, Import your Identity Safe data.

*sigh* I have updated to the 2013 version and it still failed to complete! Only 11 out of 16!

This time they are:

- Norton Web Protection Definition

- Norton Smart Virus Definition x64

- Norton Web Protection Definition (hub)

- Norton Safe Web Statistics

- Norton 2013 Reputation Revocation List

It sounds like there is something amiss with your installation that is blocking this.

Try my reinstall instructions in my previous post and let us know how it goes.

The LiveService representative has done that, even deleting all the registry regarding to Norton but it still failed to complete.

The representative also quite amazed and now I'm waiting for someone higher in level to deal with this.

Hi,

While you're waiting, what scans have you run and what were the results?

For a second opinion scan you might try

http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

or

http://superantispyware.com/

both are free and can be run from the desktop as needed.

Keep us posted

Crazy as it sounds, please ensure your system time and date are correct.  Hopefully the tech had you check this before - but I find sometimes it's best to ask a second time to verify.

Also you said you were updating the virus defs manually - I hope you are following these instuctions.

Do you by chance know if the tech did the following?  This procedure sometimes fixes weird problems caused by bits and pieces left behind - even after running the NRT.

Please open Run by pressing windows key + R -> devmgmt.msc -> View Show

Hidden devices -> open Non-Plug and Play Drivers-> Maximize the Screen

If you have a identity safe data back it up ->

Goto Control panel uninstall norton AV ->select the second option to

completely uninstall ->restart -> Run Norton Removal Tool -> Restart ->

Goto the maximized page -> if you find   NAVENG, NAVEX15, Norton Antivirus settings manager, starting from Symantec

Data Store to SymEvent (entries starting with Sym)  ->right click on them

click uninstall -> For the Restart prompts select no -> Goto Program files

if you find Norton Folder delete it -> Goto Run ->type temp ->Delete all

the files in there -> Run -> %temp% ->delete all ->Now Restart the PC -

>Install Norton Antivirus->Run Live Update until you get no updates found

message ->restart PC

1. Yes I also use Malwarebytes :)

2. Yes the rep asked me to check my date and it's correct.

The other tips, let me read more carefully...
