I hear of people updating to the 20.2.0.19 version of NIS 2013, which supposedly just became available in the last day or so. But I'm still stuck on version 20.1.1.2! This is despite me checking for new versions in the "Check for New Versions" feature which says I have the latest version. I'm also caught up on the Live Update. Anyone else unable to update versions?
I'm in the U.S., and experience this inability to update versions on both a Vista based PC, and an XP. So frustrating! Version 20.1.1.2 has wreaked havoc on my Vista computer, but seems to not adversely affect my XP one.
Here are the problems on my Vista computer that suddenly started:
1) My Sony Vegas video editing software started acting weird by randomly crashing.
2) Part of a screen remained, even after closing it out, and couldn't get rid of the header no matter what. (By then I started thinking my PC was infected)
3) The NIS 2013 icon in the system tray started disappearing and I was unable to open Norton by clicking nor right-clicking the icon in the start-up menu.
4) After doing a Live Update tonight, I was prompted to restart. After re-starting the NIS icon in system tray took FOREVER to appear. Then appeared with a red 'X', then went to green tick.
5) I turned on boot protect to "aggressive". (By default was off) After running another Live Update and being prompted to restart, I restarted, but the computer froze at the "Welcome" screen. Had to do a hard shut down.
6) After attempting to start the PC again, it got past the "welcome" screen, but this time hung at a black screen with 3 icons in system tray.
7) After another restart, the PC hung at a black screen with flashing cursor.
8) Rebooted in safe mode successfully and ran virus scans with NIS and malware scans with free version of Malwarebytes. No infection.
9) Finally booted normally and got caught up on all Live Updates. Now computer will sometimes hang up when restarting, and unless I open up Norton right away and keep it open, the icon will disappear and I won't be able to open it again. And the icon still takes forever to load.
But how can I get it to update versions?? What a nightmare!
