I have Norton Ghost 14 and I am trying to upgrade my laptop's internal hard drive to a new drive (Seagate Momentus XT 500GB -- this is their new hybrid drive). I am connecting the Momentus XT to my laptop via USB (I am using an adapter called the EZ-connect, aka USI-2535 from Kingwin).
I have tried 2 methods, neither of which worked for me:
1. Back up my entire C drive to a second external hard drive (also connected via USB, this one is in an enclosure), and then "restore" to the first external hard drive (the Momentus).
2. Directly copy my C drive to the external Momentus drive.
In both cases, it seems that the process ends when the Momentus suddenly disconnects (I am using Windows XP). I can't really tell why it is happening. For the restore, it's happened at the beginning and it's also happened once it got to 99%. I've cut power consumption from other parts of the computer to compensate, but no luck.
Here's a recent error message from directly copying:
-Error EC8F17B3: Cannot complete copying of (C:\) drive.--Cannot copy source drive to destination location.---Error E7C30010: Device \\?\Volume{a2646454-f934-11e0-b57b-021d8825dc54}\ cannot write 4096 sectors starting at LBA 3643840.----Error EBAB03F1: The system cannot find the file specified.---Cannot copy source drive to destination location.----Error E7C30010: Device \\?\Volume{a2646454-f934-11e0-b57b-021d8825dc54}\ cannot write 4096 sectors starting at LBA 3643840.-----Error EBAB03F1: The system cannot find the file specified.
Any suggestions for what I could do differently? In the past I've installed the new drive, booted to the Norton CD, and restored that way. But I've since lost the CD so I don't have that option.
