CCleaner - Pre-ticked items

Hi All,

I’ve  installed CCleaner , free version, on my recently installed Windows 7 OS -  I used to only use  the “Cleaner”  feature also on my previous XP OS.

Now, in “Windows Explorer”, among the items that come pre-ticked, I see two new ones:

- Thumbnail Cache, and

- Jump List on Taskbar

Most google searches suggest to keep them both checkmarked as well,  but I’d like to know what  this Community’s Members think about it.

Thanks!

Edit:

"Most google searches suggest to keep them both checkmarked as well".

Sorry, I meant the opposite instead, i.e.:

"Most google search results suggest to untick both of them"

Thank you.

Hi Laura,

I haven't unchecked any items that come pre-checked and haven't had any problems.  I've actually checked a few extras.  I've always felt Ccleaner was a safe program in it's default state.

Maybe others have other ideas.

Dave

Hi, Rainbow. In Explorer I have everything ticked except network passwords, and have not had any problems.

I leave everything unchecked in the Advanced section, and www.piriform.com/ccleaner has a very good help section.

Thanks for your input, Dave and F4E.

@ Dave

I also have always felt the same about CCleaner’s default configuration, that’s why I posted here before unchecking them…  I’d googlesearched  just to learn more about the new items and found it was often suggested to uncheck them.

It goes without saying that I’m leaving them checked ! :smileywink:

@ F4E

Thanks for the link but I’m always also very interested in knowing this Community Members’ thoughts :smileywink:

Thanks again. :smileyhappy:

I'd be interested whether anyone flips from the CCleaner cleaning Windows tab to the Applications tab and runs that as a a seperate application.

I tried it yesterday and while it took a couple of GB out of the Windows tab listing (as usual over a GB on Google Earth which isn't Windows and then I flipped to the Applications tab (mostly browsers) and it offered to take an additional 2MB ..... from Internet Explorer which really is Windows ......

I don't hyperventilate over cookies but I find their Intelligent setting works well and it either learns or I move a cookie over into the right pane and then I don't lose logon data.

I've always liked it's StartUp module since you can Delete and not just Disable which you couldn't (still can't?) do in Windows msconfig.

Hi, Hugh. It doesn't seem to matter whether the Windows tab or the Applications tab is highlighted. It will still produce the same result for analysing, and presumably for the same reason, also clean whatever the user has selected.

Hi, Rainbow. Just as an addition, the Piriform help section is very useful in explaining the various functions, enabling you to make an informed decision on what to clean, and what not to.....:smileyhappy:

I also leave all the registry cleaning items unchecked, just in case.

Windows 7 is pretty good at looking after the registry, anyway.
