Yes I know this is an issue that has been seen before in these forums, but the only real solution I've seen looking through all the threads is to uninstall Norton and get a different anti-virus. Another temporary solution is to simply reboot.
According to the "check new version" facility I have the latest version of Norton 360 (v5....). I've used Norton's uninstall and re-installed. The problem goes away for a couple of weeks then comes back again. Rinse and repeat. I'm now on my fourth iteration of the cycle and am very very fed up with it.
I've read posts that talk about it being busy with a single large file but I don't believe that - it locks up for hours and I can do a full surface scan in less time.
I've read posts about it being a contention with internet explorer, also a contention with outlook, those I could believe. I can see the developers happily sitting back and saying "it's their fault so we're not going to do anything".
Using google I find 58,000 hits on "ccsvchst cpu" going back years (2007 was the earliest one I spotted).
Anyway, I realise Norton aren't going to do anything about this (otherwise they would have done it by now) so what I'm looking for is a workaround.
I think ccsvchst is doing a scan, is there an option I can tiick to tell it to stop and start again later?
Alternatively, can anyone tell me how to change its priority? Windows blocks me.
