ccSvcHst.exe application error during shutdown after upgrading from NIS2009 to NIS2010

Since upgrading from NIS2009 to NIS2010 (build 17.0.0.136) my two WinXP based systems consistently produce the following error message during system shutdown:

“ccSvcHst.exe - Application error.  The instruction at <memory location> referenced memory at <memory location>. The memory could not be read."

Both WinXP systems are XP Pro SP3 with all current MS patches applied.

The procedure I used to perform the upgrade on these systems was as follows:

  • Uninstall NIS2009 using the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs.
  • Do a prior product version cleanup using the current Norton Product Removal Tool.
  • Install the NIS10UPEN.exe package from the website.

I’ve been able to solve the problem by reverting to NIS2009, but I’d prefer not to do that if at all avoidable.

Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated,

John
