ccSvcHst.exe - Application Error

I recently installed Norton 360 (replaced my old Norton AntiVius 2012).  I am now getting the following error:

ccSvcHst.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x6a499f66 referenced memory at 0x00000044 " .   The memory could not be "read".

How do you fix it?

Can you advise what version of NIS you are using? Go to Help&Support>About

Hello, mdg32,

If your NIS version is 16.7.2.10, then you most likely need to apply the latest hotfix to the machine that has the ccSvcHst.exe error. Please visit this email thread. You don't need to apply the hotfix to your other machines that don't have this error.

Hello mdg32,

Here is the link to the latest hotfix. http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=67948

Yes my version is 16.7.2.10,

I will try the hot fix

I have this problem too it started 4 days ago after 2 times  once by Symantec support technician and yesterday by me.

Removing and reinstalling Nav 09 the problem seems to be solved but the next day it starts again..

As long as I'm not connected to internet everything is OK, however after internet connection is done I get the error message

I'm not an expert in such technical matters I wonder who will fix this issue.

Thanks

Hi mdg32!

Did you apply the hotfix as suggested? thx

Thanks for the follow up - I applied the HotFIx this morning, and so far no errors have occured. I till post back if I have more problems tomorrow.

Well, yesterday Monday 24 August 09 I asked again technical support.

This time the technician did not remove my NAV09 from my PC, instead he downloaded some "Hotfix Application" like (KB20090821103237EN.exe) and run it.

This is the second day and this "ccSvcHst.exe" application error issue is solved.

Thanks to support team

Thanks for responding PapauZ

The version of NIS 2010 I am running is 17.5.0.127, which according to update checks on the website is the most recent.

As for the OS its XP SP3

No new applications installed recently, or BETA systems, or other security products. Everything was fine and dandy until about a week ago then it all went pearshaped.

Hey all, first post so hope you can help

After a recent update I got the above message. Once this message appeared and was accepted or cancelled, NIS 2010 would stop running and not work again until I reboot. If I got to it before the message appeared and tried to perform a Live Update, it would start processing for a while before the message appeared once more and I was back to square one.

Anybody got any ideas on how I can resolve this?

Thanks

Seany

The latest version is 17.6. It was released just a few days, and it is only released in a controlled way -> not everyone gets it first, Symantec is testing that do it has any errors.

You can try to run LiveUpdate manually to get the update, but you have to run it several times to get it....

This happens to me also. It only happens on machines that have floppy drives. Very annoying!

Well, tried a manual update and the Norton website tells me I am up to date after checking. However, when I can get NIS 2010 to work long enough to check the version it tells me I am still at 17.5.

Automatic update will still not work due to the ccsvchst error, although it does tell me that it needs attention. The whole performance of the machine continues to be poor while this error exists and no I dont have a floppy drive.

Any further ideas, or ways I can update to the latest version outside of the above?

All help greatly appreciated as its doing my head in

When you got the error, does it writes you any error number?

The full error message is as follows;

ccSvcHst.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x7c917c43" referenced memory at "0x64eedbff". The memory could not be "read"

Click on OK to terminate the program

Click on CANCEL to debug the program

Selecting Cancel does not appear to do anything, with both options causing NIS 2010 to shutdown. Trying to manually open NIS doesnt work. However, sometimes it will restart on its own, but again the error message will appear without warning leading to the same results.

Since my last post I have also installed and run Malwarebytes AntiMalware program as mentioned on another thread in here to see if malware is the issue. However, even this hasnt helped.

thanks again,

Seany

Unfortunately now I can only suggest to reinstall the product using the Norton Removal Tool.

Here are the steps:

0. If you had Identity Safe data, first (try to) back-up it

1. Download Norton Removal Tool (www.norton.com/nrt) and the latest Norton Internet Security version (www.norton.com/nis10)
2. Uninstall Norton Internet Security via Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs or from the Start Menu
3. Reboot
4. Run the Norton Removal Tool 2-3 times to erase all the remaining files and registry keys (This will remove every other Norton products as well!!!!), do a reboot after every run
5. Reboot
6. Install Norton Internet Security by the downloaded setup package, and activate it with your product key
7. Run Live Update manually until you get no other updates

8. Restore your Identity Safe data

Let us know the results please.

PapauZ,

I have done as suggested, removing the old NIS and installing the new. The good news is that I am now on 17.6.

There were 17 updates which downloaded successfully, although after rebooting I got the error again (although with different references).

I restarted once more and managed to download another update before a Windows "Data Execution Error" window popped up. It didnt seem to affect the Live Update though.

I rebooted a couple more times and things seem to work okay, although there is still a bit of a speed issue (which I noticed wasnt a problem when I uninstalled NIS). I will keep an eye on things over the next few days and let you know how I go on. The important thing is that my protection is up to date which the goal.

Many thanks for your help,

Seany
