ccSvcHst.exe faulting with 0xc0000374, Event ID 1000

One of my PCs no longer displays any Norton 360 GUI when I try to open Norton 360, run live update, view recent history, etc. The system is Win 7 x64, all drivers and updates current.

I ran Norton Power Eraser, no problem found. I uninstalled Norton 360 with Norton Removal Tool and re-installed a fresh download of the product. No change.

The clock is correct.

The Norton Taskbar and icon is not accessible -- it disappears from the systray when I hover over it. All GUIs are inaccessible, regardless of how I access them..

The last message I got before everything became inaccessible was a Norton 8504,104 error. I followed the instructions in the forum for correcting. Power Erase found a suspicious file. Subsequent runs of NPE.exe found no risks, except for an audio driver from HP. To be safe, I uninstalled the audio program, and downloaded the latest driver from the manufacturer and re-installed. Subsequent runs of NPE.exe show no risks found.

No other security software has been installed on this computer. The system came with a trial version of Norton 360, which had been converted to a full subscription.

I have already ready done an uninstall on Norton 360 using the Norton Removal Tool. After re-installation of a fresh copy of Norton 360, the problem was unchanged. I then did an uninstall using Windows Uninstall, leaving user data, then followed up with another execution of the Norton Removal Tool, followed by a re-installation. Again, no change.

When I attempt to open Norton 360, I get a User Account Control message asking for permission to run Norton Protection Center UI stub. Granting that access gives no results -  i.e., no GUI. ccSvcHst process is running but no GUI appears.

Hi dave_Barnett

The text below is copied from your post and is missing two restarts of the computer, one after uninstalling and one after running the Norton removal tool.  Can you please remove the Norton product as requested or confirm that you have in fact restarted as requested.  The link below points to the necessity of the restart.

The link below seems to point to the above suggestion having an effect, see post number 8 and 10 and check the date.

I restarted every time I was prompted to do so. Here are the restarts:

"I have already ready done an uninstall on Norton 360 using the Norton Removal Tool.

[Then I restarted.]

After re-installation of a fresh copy of Norton 360 [ and then a restart],

the problem was unchanged.

I then did an uninstall using Windows Uninstall, leaving user data,[ then I restarted,]

then followed up with another execution of the Norton Removal Tool, [ then I restarted,]

followed by a re-installation [and another restart]. Again, no change."

The clock is still correct. That is, the time, day of the week, month, and year are still correct.

sfc shows no integrity problems.

None of the security products on the list except Norton have been installed.

Hi dave_Barnett

Thanks for clarifying the question about the restarts.

In your last post you wrote the text below that mentions a list, can you confirm that you have checked in the windows add/remove programmes, programme data and programme files for security software?

None of the security products on the list except Norton have been installed.

The graphic drivers may be causing a problem can you uninstall then restart the computer this will reinstall them if there is no joy can you get the previous version for the graphic drivers from the computer manufactures main website.

Intesec -

Yes, I checked the installed program list in the control panel.

The graphics drivers in device manager are the original drivers that came from the manufacturer, dated 9/9/2010. I installed the current driver from the manufacturer. The program I use to keep drivers updated missed this one.

Installing the current driver fixed the problem. Thanks for the tip!
