I have discovered that the cd/dvd rw drive is not working on my HP desktop running windows 7 or my Dell laptop running windows vista after installing Norton 360 version 4. After much research and reading online I think the problem is the Norton 360 antivirus program version 4 that I installed on both machines. It appears to have corrupted my cd/dvd rw drives on both machines. I did download and run the microsoft Mr fix it and ran driver installer from GEAR and fixcd reg. I now have my cd/dvd rw drives showing in my computer and device manager and they no longer have the yellow exclamation mark stating corrupt or missing driver but they will not burn to a disc and they do not show in Roxio or dvdfab. These programs say no dvd drive found. I have read everything I can find on the Norton web site and am totally frustrated with them as I found no fix for this irritating problem. Why did it even cause this problem? I cannot back up my files or computer. Since I paid for the Norton 360 to protect 3 computers, I do not want to uninstall it and have to purchase another antivirus program. I have gone into device manager and deleted the drivers and reinstalled them. I have also tried to update them but windows says they have the current driver. I have also uninstalled my dvdfab and updated it and reinstalled it, still no dvd drive found. I am not a computer whiz so I am hoping someone can help me in language I can understand and follow.
Thank you, Barba
