Check status of activation code - Norton Utilities 14.5

I own a couple of copies of 3PC Norton Utilities. I don't recall ever installing it but one of the envelopes appears to have been opened. I checked my Norton account, and it only shows several installations for NIS.  If I have actually used one of the Utilities activation  would that installation show up? I know I installed Ghost 14 a while back, and it doesn't show up.

Hi chinnboy,

The only ones which will show up in the Norton Account are the subscription based ones like NIS. I have a long history of purchases of Ghost, Norton Utilities, etc and none of those has ever been listed in my account.

However, Customer Service should still be able to let you know if they have received a previous activation for that product key and if so, whether it was you or someone else who activated it.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Allen

Hello chinnboy

Here is the link for Help about  mynortonaccount.. There's lots of useful information in this link I have just discovered., maybe known to others, but not known to me., at least not all of it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions eneryone.  Actually, the first thing I did was try live help thinking that they could check to see whether an activation code had been used for activation. In a roundabout wasy the answer seemed to be "no".  That seemed a little goofy to me, so I thought the forum might shed light on whether that answer was correct.

For the heck of it, I just tried again. Again, the answer was "no", but he went on to say that installation of NU would not show on mynortonaccount.com because it wasn't a subscription product. Here is the relevant dialog:

Gnanamurthy(Sun Aug 8 09:34:04 EDT 2010)> The Norton Utilities does not have a subscription engine. So it cannot be checked if the key is used or not.
Gnanamurthy(Sun Aug 8 09:32:54 EDT 2010)>

It will not be shown in Norton account as it does not the subscription engine.

So it would seem like only subscription applications show up on mynortonaccount.com, and that while the Symantec computers keep track of activation usage, that data for non-subscription applications stays locked up in the computer and is not accessible to users or their help desk.

HI chinnboy,

Thanks for the update. This is what I mentioned earlier that only subscription products show up in the Norton account. I am however surprised that they are not able to check some records somewhere else and let you know whether that product key has already been used. That doesn't sound right but I can't say for sure what they do/do not have access to check.

Somewhere this information has to be available because if multiple people were to try and activate software using the same product key, subsequent ones will get rejected by the Symantec server.

My recommendation would be to try and install it and if for any reason the product key has already been used, it should inform you when you try to activate it.

Please let us know how it goes.

Best wishes.

Allen
