That seems a bit odd. Weâve recently released an update of Norton 360 which makes the current version 2.3.1.4, which is available through LiveUpdate. I would recommend updating Norton 360 and let us know if this resolves the issue for you. There was a background scanning issue that was fixed, and this might be related to that update. Thanks!
No change after updating to v2.3.1.4 PC Tuneup still doesnât run automatically (still works manually) & diatonic report still show PC Tuneup as disabled, even with everything but registry cleaner still checked in Task Scheduler. I did think of something that might have cause this problem about 4-5 weeks ago I tried installing Microsoft XP service pack 3, but that didnât go well I got memory errors that I couldnât get out off till I turn off my computer, when I restarted my computer one of the options that Windows XP gave was to not retry the upgrade again and everything would be restored to its prior settings. I went with not retrying the upgrade to sp3 (staying with sp2) again. When the computer finish coming back up and I logged into both desktops on the computer everything seem alright & restored. But maybe something within N360 PC Tuneup wasnât restored then and this what is causing the trouble. So back to my original question other then doing a reinstall of N360 v2 to fix this problem, is there anything else that can be done to fix PC Tuneup?
Subscription issue moved to a new thread for better exposure.
Tony, FYI - update 2.3.1.4 does not eliminate the unwanted background scanning issues previously described throughout this community as you state here. There are serious bugs within 360 ver.2.0 that need to be addressed. Maybe this is due to possibly rushing into RTM products or not initially perceiving the potential issues that might arise in the version. Either way until your Quality Control gets a handle on these issues, I would recommend to everyone to remove 360 ver. 2.0 from their systems and look into comparable replacement alternatives.
I have the same problem. i'm running version 2.3.1.4, windows xp professional sp3

After looking at Norton 360 Support - Top Issues and Updates since I thought this problem with PC Tuneup my have came from my aborted try at upgrading to XP Service Pack 3 I clicked on the link dealing with problems from upgrading XP SP3 or Vista SP1. I ran the SymRegFix.exe file it removed 3770 invalid registry keys, I then did the restart it said to do. But when the computer came back up & I ran a diagnostic report it still showed PC Tuneup is disabled.
Iâm having the same issue as spiderknight. Although Iâm running the 15-day trial version (2.3.1.4.) using Windows Vista Home Premium. The only thing I have tried is uninstalling and reinstalling.
Awax,
Did the reinstall work or is PC Tuneup still showing It is disable & only working manually?
My apologies for leaving that out spider, but it still shows âDisabledâ in the report even though those items are checked under Automatic Tasks.
Thank you, Jon. Hopefully Symantec can come with a fix for us.
After seeing a possible fix in another post titled âPC Tuneup DIsabiledâ by jaybopj I went to live chat to see if they could confirm the link is good & help me install the link if it is good, since from the jaybopj post you got to temporarily tune off some of the guards within N360 v2 to get the link to load. All I got from the Live Chat tech Prasath Korankandy was him/her to remote into my system poke around like the last tech, then after poking around telling me that my problem caused by trouble with Active X and Symantec is working on solution to be sent sometime in the future in a Live Update. What Prasath never would give me was an answer to my question, is the link in jaybopjâs post good or not. So after wasting about an hour with Live Chat. I e-mailed Tony Weiss directly & hope to hear back from him early next week.
Hello spiderknight,
I am unable to find the link you reference, can you post the actual url you are talking about.
As far as pc tuneup being disabled, if you disable all the automatic scans, in the schedule page, then yes the PC Tuneup icon will become gray and will not be enabled. This is expected behavior.

This the link jaybopj claims he got in an e-mail from Symantec Tech support, I copied jaybopj post from 7-9-08 from PC Tuneup DIsabled:
"I sent another email to support and they sent the following link http://solutions.symantec.com/sdccommon/asp/symcu_contentredirect.asp?docid=20071130150308ENÂ&lg=enÂ&seg=hhoÂ&ct=usÂ&src=w
It references Enabling Symantec startup files for Norton 360 2.0 which has to do with some of the Symantec Services so I made the changes restarted my PC and PC Tuneup is showing protected. Also, I shutdown my PC for one hour logged back in ran PC Tuneup
DIagnostics and so far PC Tuneup is still Protected. Once I logout tonight I wont log back in until tomorrow evening and I will
see if PC Tuneup is still Protected."
So is link from Symantec & does it get PC Tuneup to start working automatically again?
For what it is worth, the link is from Symantec.
On my PC under services I have com host and Symantec core LC set to "Manual" and not started.
and I do not have any entry for Symantec Symsnap VSS provider. Others are all automatic and started.
Now it is possible that I may have changed the com host entry (based on other non Norton advice) but certainly not the others.
Spider, for some reason that link still shows content not found.
Can someone shed some light on exactly which document / link you are referencing?
Thanks,
Matt
The link came from forum posting titled âPC Tuneup DIsabledâ by jaybopj last updated at 7-10-08 3:17pm. But back to the main issues there is some improvement Disk Optimization has now run 2 night in row automatically , but the rest of PC Tuneup still only works manually (I still everything checked to run automatically except Registry Cleaner in Task Scheduler, also Diagnostic Report still shows PC Tuneup disabled) . The newer issue of Virus/Spyware scan will run automatically for 1-12 seconds but not scanning anything is still happening (from other peoples posts Iâm not the only person this happening to either), but again if I run the scan manual (both Quick scan & Full scans) it actually will scan items . Now for the newest issue which has happen twice now in the past 7-10 days that is I login to my Desktop and the Norton icon doesnât come up in the task tray, when I bring N360 v2.3.1.4 up with clicking on the Desktop icon it shows the all the protection is disabled and clicking Fix or the Individual items (I.E. Firewall, Phish Protection) doesnât turn them back on. The only thing that gets N360 to go back to green & get the N360 icon to show up in the task try is doing a Restart of my computer. I have e-mailed Tony Weiss back on 7-11-08 about all this issue except the newest since that only today happen for the 2nd time, but as of this post I havenât heard back from him.
I have sent you additional instructions via the community Private Messenger system, please look for the in the upper right hand corner of any community page.

That should work better. Thanks!
