Hi All,
I am just wondering if any of you good folk could make any recommendations for me.
A Chinese website "LuDaShi" had somehow loaded software onto one of my computers. The major effect was a popup occurring a couple of minutes into using the computer. This could be closed using the "X" in the top right corner, but I wanted it gone completely as it was all in Chinese and looked like it was malware. A folder "LuDashi" was found in the Program Files folder of C: drive. Attempts to uninstall via Control Panel were unsuccessful, in part because of the Chinese writing of which I am unfamiliar. Attempts to delete the "LuDaShi" folder via the command prompt were made but unsuccessful with "access denied".
A Google search of LuDaShi showed up very very little. From a Chinese friend, I understand this software has been painful throughout China. Going into Safe Mode, another attempt via Control Panel was made to force an uninstall and this seems to have been partially successful in that the popups have ceased and the normal Control Panel does not show the software. But a look at the C: drive still shows the folder and three .dll files. A command prompt attempt to delete these files is saying they in use by Windows Explorer and cannot be deleted. These .dll's are buried very deep within the Task Manager. It takes a fair bit of searching to see that they are still there.
I tried Norton Power Eraser, but like Internet Security, it cannot find problems. Internet Security says everything is fine and protected, but I would still like to offload the remains of this software.
a) given that Norton Internet Security doesn't have a problem, should I just forget about it?
b) is there a way of ridding the affected computer of these files short of reformat and reinstall everything? I am unsure of when they were installed on the hard drive and so a System Restore point would be a wild guess.
Any thoughts?
cheers Vaughan.
