Clone RAID 0 system disk to bootable single hard drive

I believe my issue is the same as the > 1 year old http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Ghost/Can-Ghost-15-be-used-to-clone-a-Raid-0-striped-drive/m-p/981875/highlight/true#M1824.  However, it's not clear the given process worked, and Norton Ghost has morphed.  I believe I can still find Ghost 15 for sale.

I have a circa 2008 Dell Precision T3400 with a failing (but still operable most of the time) RAID 0 system C: drive.  I wish to replace the RAID 0 pair with a single 1 TB drive, and because installed programs I have would need replacement, I don't want to have to rebuild the system.  Cloning seems to be the solution.  I have installed the new SATA drive, which is working fine as T:.  System is Windows 7 SP1.

Two questions:

1. is the process given in the previous answer one that works?  I'm concerned, because various forums around for both Ghost and Acronis seem to have mixed messages about success with cloning RAID 0 to a single bootable disk, and my technical knowledge is not that deep.  I'm not at all sure the discussion there describes a process that I can follow successfully.

2. If not Ghost 15, which seems to be obsolete, then what other products might work for this one time migration?  I spoke with a Western Digital tech person who said that the "Acronis True Image WD Edition" product downloadable from WD will NOT work for this configuration.

Many thanks in advance,

Dan

Dan,

Can you post a screenshot of Disk Management with all HDs installed?

Hi,

Thank you for the reply and having a look.  The screenshot is attached.

- Disk 0 is the failing RAID 0 pair.  I believe the 55MB partitioin is for reinstalling the system.  C: is, well, ...

- Disk 1 is the 1 TB Western Digital to which I hope to move the system.  I've messed with it some;  seems to be working fine.

- Disk 2 is a USB drive that is used for backup.  Older and smaller.

- Disk 4 is another USB drive that I recently added to make sure I have a second data backup.

Again, I appreciate your time and help.

Dan, thanks for the info.

Delete the partition on your Disk 1. You have to copy to unallocated free space.

Using Ghost 15 in Windows. Copy Drive.....

Copy the OEM partition using these options...

Check source for file system errors
Check destination for file system errors
DON'T SELECT Disable SmartSector copying
DON'T SELECT Ignore bad sectors during copy
Destination partition type : Primary
Drive letter : None

Next, copy the Win7 partition using these options...

Check source for file system errors
Check destination for file system errors
Resize drive to fill unallocated space (ONLY if you want to)
Set drive active (for booting OS)
DON'T SELECT Disable SmartSector copying
DON'T SELECT Ignore bad sectors during copy
Copy MBR
Destination partition type : Primary
Drive letter : None

When complete, shutdown and remove the RAID HDs from your computer. Removing the drives is essential. Resite the 1 TB HD's SATA data cable from its current port to SATA port 1 on the motherboard. Power on.

Good luck and let us know the outcome.
