Cloud Backup using Norton 360 version 25.2 on Windows 11 - Does it work?

I don’t know if Cloud Backup was working for me on 25.1 since I wasn’t using Cloud Backup at all at any level except for some old laptops a few years ago. I don’t know what level Norton was at in those times.

I’ve not run at V24 ever to my knowledge.

Why not?
are you willing to try Remove only?

Sure! I’m willing to use Remove only if that would help. I can’t understand why it would but whatever.

Norton 360 was v22 since 2014.
v24 was complete make over in 2024.
When did you start running Norton 360?

Maybe 15 years ago.
I am (or at least used to be) a loyal customer back to the Symantec days. I even bought LifeLock!

Introducing Norton Security v.24! - Announcements - Norton Community

Community suggests Remove only…for cleaner reinstall.

but, since Norton support was unable to sort you…then head scratch

I’ve read enough community items to know that level 24 caused users a lot of problems and many features of Cloud Backup were taken away. Local backup didn’t even work at all until they fixed it in 25.1. There is also no user documentation for level 24 or 25 I can find. I don’t really want to go back to an old level with those sorts of issues.

Great. Another Norton 360 function that does not work as advertised.

Thanks for your help. I’m going to give Level 2 a chance to make things right. You’ve been great, but I’m not going to screw around with my registry.

but, since Norton support was unable to sort you…then head scratch

are you running Norton Family/Parental Control?

Nope. I’m not running Family/Parent Control. (Also not running VPN, or the other functions like safe browsing.)

“Run as admin” refers to temporarily elevating a program to run with administrator privileges, while “admin user” signifies a user account that has full administrative access to the system all the time; essentially, “run as admin” is a temporary action, while “admin user” is a permanent user status with elevated privileges.

“Run as admin”:

  • Allows a standard user to execute a program with full administrator rights for that specific instance only.
  • Usually requires confirmation when launching an application.
  • Useful when a program needs to make system-wide changes but doesn’t need constant admin access.

“Admin user”:

  • A user account with full permissions to perform any action on the system, including managing other user accounts.
  • Can access and modify all system settings without needing to elevate privileges temporarily.

================================================

Administrator

  • Has full access to the system, including Settings and Utilities
  • Can install software, change settings, and access all files
  • Can add or remove users and subscriptions

Standard user

  • Can make changes to their own account, such as desktop appearance, themes, and user account picture
  • Can run programs and load and save files
  • Cannot install drivers, install programs, or make system-wide changes

I’ll check that out. Thanks.

FWIW I am using Local Backup to Network Attached Storage (NAS) in v25.2 on Win 11 and have successfully tested backup and restore on approx 233GB and seems to be working reasonably well.

It took some time to complete the full initial backup (several runs over three days). Incremental backups are quick (minutes).

My setting FYI are

Hello @RobertS
@Mitch.Green refers to Cloud Backup
Thanks for NAS feedback

Okay…I’m always Windows Admin user account…so, I’m not sure what works/doesn’t from Standard user account.

as test: Standard user account
call Norton 360 w/wo Run as administrator + admin password
call Cloud Backup

Note: same message w/wo Sign In at Norton 360

Why would I use local backup? Since I’m only backing up 2 GB, I have been copying the info myself to a hard drive manually. I wanted Cloud Backup just in order to have a copy of the data that is not on my premises and local backup does not give me any more value than I already have by doing it by hand … maybe convenience I suppose.

All I would get with Norton local backup is another chance for finding a function that doesn’t work for me. (OK, I apologize, that was cynical.) If Level 2 can’t help (they still have not responded) I’m going to take my chances with OneDrive and hope for the best.

Honestly, I’m glad it is working for someone so that’s good news. I’m just running out of patience and time to worry about it. I appreciate your post.
Thanks!

I checked and I definitely appear to have Administrator authority. I never see the screen you added into this chat about “Administrator access required” so I do not think this is my problem.

@RobertS posted Local Backup NAS here.

and new Windows 11 install is from Recovery Drive? or ?
if from Recovery Drive - any preinstalled security trialware/program?

and your 25.2 is otherwise running okay…as far as you know?

Okay. Thanks.
I’m trying to imagine what’s what with Cloud Backup your side.

Thanks, but I doubt it is just on my side for this reason: When I look at “my.norton” on the web and open up Cloud Backup, I see 4.7 GB of data stored, but only a handful of folders and files that add up to maybe 20 MB of files. If the problem were on my side, why am I seeing the same few files on my laptop Norton 360 app on Windows AND ALSO the same few files on the my.norton web site? Thank you!

PS - I still have not heard from Level 2. They promised to call within 24 to 48 hours and we’re now up to at least 128 hours (of course, that includes a weekend.) Still frustrated.
