Please run Norton LiveUpdate and Restart (not Shut down) machine. Repeat.
Be sure you are using the Restart command. Not Shut down and startup again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled. If you use Windows 8/8.1, 10 or 11, there canbe an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here. (credit peterweb)

Thank you for that. Yes, I've managed to find the quick controls in settings and unchecked "Backup". This hopefully will solve the problem. Thanks once again for your patience.
Another way to get the Classic interface is to right click on the Norton icon in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen. Then click on Open Norton 360. That should open the classic interface.
Thanks for getting back to me on this. Don’t know what the classic 360 interface is but I’ve opened “My Norton” which is probably the “new My Norton interface” that you mention and clicked on “Settings”. Can’t see “quick controls”.
Back to Home, I can see “Device Security” but it doesn’t say “open”, just “issues found”, “smart scan”, “live update” and “fix now”. Clicked on the arrow at “fix now” gives “scan options”, “performance” “software updater” and “manage my devices”.
“Home” also has “Cloud Backup” “Attention” “fix now”.
You’ll realise you’re speaking to a complete numpty when it comes to PCs!
If you don't want to use the backup feature, open the classic 360 interface and click on Settings. Then in the Quick Controls section on the right side and uncheck the Backup and Backup Status Overlay settings. That should stop any messages about the backup. If you are using the new My Norton interface, click on Open beside Device Security to open the classic interface.
Now if you want to remove any files that may be in your online storage, log into your Norton Account and Click on View Backup Sets on the Cloud Backup pillar. Then click on the trash can beside any backup sets you wish to remove.
I'm fed up with the cloud backup constantly reminding me that I don't have required space and trying to sell me more space! I want to turn off cloud backup and delete whatever is there. I can't find a way to do that nor can I get any email or phone assistance to do this. I'm fed up with the popups!
