Collecting system details with Norton Autofix

Some of the most frequently asked questions in response to a Forum Member's issue are:

  • What Norton product are you using?
  • What is the Version number?
  • What Operating System?
  • What Service Pack level?

...and so on. It is then up to the thread author to try and locate all of the information requested.

The Norton Autofix tool in the Norton 2012 products now has the capability of collecting some basic information about the user's Norton product and their Windows Operating System. This information can be copied to the clipboard and pasted directly into a thread reply.

To access this feature:

  1. Open the main Norton interface and click Support > Get Support.
  2. Norton Autofix will then scan the system for issues.
  3. When the scan completes, there will be an option to copy the results to the clipboard (circled in red below). Click on this link to copy the results to the clipboard.
  4. Click Close to finish.

The benefit of using this approach to collect information about the user's system is that Norton Autofix will attempt to resolve any issues that it detects in the first instance. If it can't fix them directly, then the error information will be included in the 'Copy to Clipboard' results.

The format of the results is as follows:

  • Norton Product
  • Norton Product Version Number
  • Norton Error Codes
  • Windows Operating System Name
  • Windows Version / Service Pack
  • Norton Autofix Results
