2 weeks ago I downloaded Norton Internet Security from my ISP (comcast). Since then alot of pictures are blocked. (IE the Google image on the google search page, most of the pictures below user names in this forum, as well and email content)
I have played with the settings in IE and checked "show pictures" is checked... I am not familiar with NIS user interface and can't even find "add ons" to see if they are the culprit
Can you please confirm for us which program you have and the version number? If you have Comcast program, then it's Comcast Norton Security Suite. NIS is a different program. Also what operating system and service pack and if 32 or 64 bit please. Thanks.
First of all, be advised that sooner or later a mod will see this post and move this post will be moved to the Other Products board as that is where all the Comcast Norton Security Suite (CNSS) posts reside.
.
Just a few questions, what security program were you running prior to installing the CNSS? Was it McAfee by chance?
.
Do you have any other security programs presently installed - if so - which ones?
.
Please reply with answers to the above questions, as well s which Operating System you are running.
After running the McAfee removal tool, I would then use the Norton Removal Tool to remove the install of CNSS because it was probably not a good install with remnants of McAfee still there. After running the Norton Removal Tool 2 times with a reboot after each run, I would then go back to Comcast and get a fresh install of CNSS and then see if you are still having problems. Please be aware that the use of Norton Removal Tool will remove all Norton products.
Please pick the proper Norton product that you want to remove. Also please be aware that it will remove all Norton products, so back up Identity Safe using the program to back that up. Also please have your product key handy.
Thank you Allen for new link
Please come back and let us know how you made out. Thanks.
Selectively blocking images only on certain websites does not sound like something any security program would do unless the user had made all sorts of weird custom firewall rules, which I assume you have not. I suspect something else may be going on. First, you say the problem is occurring on this site with member's avatars so let's use community.norton.com as a test. In IE, add this site to the Trusted SItes zone in the Security tab in Internet Options (make sure the box for "Require server verification..." is unchecked). This will enable more things to run on the site and might fix the problem, especially if you have the Internet Zone locked down tightly which will block most scripting. If this site works in the Trusted Zone, it means a setting in the Internet Zone might be too restrictive to allow pages to work correctly. If you still cannot see images refer to this Microsoft KB article for some further troubleshooting procedures you can try.
