Comcast Offers Free Norton 360

Thanks to SendofJive, PhilD, and delphinium for your resposnes.

I am in a unique situation in that I am currently using a paid subscription to NIS 2010 and won't give up 280 days of my subscription to switch to Comcast Norton Security Suite (CNSS).  I was a former Norton user, I believe System Works 2002 was my first purchase, gave up on Norrton, went to Kaspersky for a few years and then bought a new HP sys with NIS 2009 trial.  OMG what a pleasant surprise, so off I went and got me a 3 PC subscription to NIS 2010 and am very pleased.  Not sure I will switch to Norton 360 anyway, as  Win 7 has backup already and NIS 2010 seems to have more options I can change to suit my needs.  Sorry, if I am preaching to the choir.

Anyway, I have been trying to help out on the COMCAST Forum and I have been referring folks to come here (when we get stuck over there)  for answers, as I know ya'll have been helping with Norton longer than I have.

The UAL is an excellent suggestion and I will try to get a copy of  it from our forum admin over there and provide feedback - if  I get a copy of it.

As far as the differences (between Norton 360 and CNSS), the only difference I am aware of is that there is no online backup that is offered with the COMCAST version.  If there are others that you are aaware of, please inform.

I agree V 4's release is a COMCAST thing and I have asked our COMCAST Admin for feedback on "when" it will be available for us.

I will keep an eye out for any COMCAST customer questions that are referred back to the COMCAST Forums and try to insure they are not looked upon as an unwelcome gesture.  I will also make sure these last couple of posts are included in an area where the folks overseeing the COMCAST Security Forum can see what has transpired.

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was a conversion from McAfee to Norton completed in a day.

I ( we) certainly appreciate being welcomed here and also any knowledge you can pass on from your experience.  Conversely if you have any questions about CNSS - feel welcome to come on over and ask the question.

I was making a general point that free versions often do not use the latest scanning engines and the most advanced features available, so some differences could be under the hood.  Whatever advancements are present in N360v.4 are not currently included with Norton Security Suite.  I don't know what sorts of expectations one should have about the parity of a free version and a paid version of the same program.  I am aware of one AV company whose free ISP offering is always last year's model.  There is nothing wrong with that - it is free.  A user needs to consider the cost/benefit aspects when deciding which security program to install.  For anyone considering the free offer, but wanting all the newest features, such a decision is made more difficult amid the conflicting information about a possible Norton Security Suite upgrade that may or may not happen.

I asked a user this morning to check and get back to me with the  version of CNSS.

They respsonded with " version 3.8.0.41", which if memory serves me correctly is the latest version of the V  3 software (prior to V 4)

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I agree with you about last year's version.  I have seen last year's version of a lot of programs dirt cheap on the net.

Thanks a lot yank for your able assistance.  We are all going to appreciate it over the next little while.

You are correct in that the 3.8.0.41 is the latest v3 version.  The v4 version is still so new that we are dealing with a few glitches in it.  Comcast may simply prefer to wait to offer it until it has more time for tweaks.

Some of our users have chosen to stay with the 2009 versions of NIS that are updated for Win7 for various reasons, and a few of our users are still on 2008 versions. We have some awkwardness trying to remember backward as well as trying to catch up forwards sometimes. :smileytongue:

[Edit] This was written and posted before I turned the page <s> Thanks Yank for clarifying so much and acting as a link.

Now if a Norton Employee comes on and says that we the COMCAST folks can not obtain help from this Norton Forum, then fair enough.

Hello yank and welcome,

Obviously I am not a Symantec employee, but as far as I am concerned, all are welcome to participate here. I have no doubt that you will find the Norton Community members willing to help out in those areas that are common to both products.

However, if a question arises about an issue or feature unique to the Comcast Security Suite, we may not know the answer. In that case, a link back to the Comcast Forums may yield better information and hopefully will not be interpreted as an unwelcome gesture.

Hope that helps!

One thing we cannot answer, as users helping users, is if or when COMCAST will upgrade their version based on V3 to V4, the current version.

That answer has to come from COMCAST or someone authorized by them.

Apart from that I don't see any cases where we have not tried to be helpful to COMCAST users so if one of us says "I can't answer that" it should not be taken as "I won't anser that".

Symantec Staff here show up with their names in red and since they all have regular jobs programming or with quality control etc they may not be as frequently visible here at weekends.

huwyngr - thanks for your post, I am pleased to see so many of you Gurus are responding to helping us "COMCAST USERS" .

Maybe we should form a  Guru/CU allegiance!

On second thought, we are all users helping users and not getting paid for it.  It's just fair, as our (COMCAST's) paid employees show up in RED  and usually do not work weekends etiher!

Yank,

Maybe somebody's moonlighting <gdr>

Latest word from COMCAST Forums Admin on V 4 upgrade for COMCAST Norton Security Suite is  "TBD, Released "Soon", No Positive ETA, sorry !".

It appears our admin is also part of the mushroom syndrome!

This post has been move to the Other Norton Products board. In the future, please post all Norton Security Suite for Comcast questions to the Other Norton Products board.
