Computer Attacks

I am using Windows XP.

This is becoming quite a mystery for me.  Under general rules I added my DSL's IP.  Still get the same warnings.  I am unable to modify any of the settings under program control.  The OK and Cancel buttons are greyed out so the changes I make don't take.

I’m not sure why the settings buttons are disabled. Are you able to disable the portscan signature in the intrusion prevension settings?

I have been trying to locate the portscan signature but I don't see that option.

I have NAV 2005.  Every year I renew my subscription but it still says NAV 2005(not sure if this matters).

ReneeM, with the 2005 product, renewing your subscription just allows you to continue receive subscription content and not upgrade the product. As of the 2006 and latter products, an active subscription entitles you to free product upgrades as well.

I don't have the 2005 product installed anywhere at the moment, but there should be a setting somewhere that should allow you to disable any of the intrusion detection / intrusion prevention signatures. Maybe somebody else in this community knows and can provide that information before I'm able to dig it out.

Thank you for that information regarding the product.  When it was time to renew my subsrciption I was always unsure which option to choose.   I just renewed my subscription in May but maybe I'll go ahead and upgrade to the latest addition.  I didn't know that there was a difference.

I do have the ability to disable the worm and auto-protect functions.  I have been disabling the worm protection in order to get on the internet.

Of course there is a difference; how do you think symantec make their money?  ;)  There are New Faetures added and the Features are Upgraded to help Remove Today's Threats, for example, which will better-Protect you.

I would suggest Norton Internet Security 2009.

I have a similar problem.  I signed up for this board because of that problem.

I keep getting a message saying that Worm Proection has blocked an attempted intrusion.  The attacking IP is the IP of my modem and the attacked IP is the addy of AT&T.  After the error message my internet access is shut down.

Is it possible that I already have a virus that is trying to launch?
